CHENEY, Wash. — The 2023  fall schedule is set for Eastern Washington women's soccer and the team is ready to get back on the pitch.

After two preseason exhibitions, the Eagles begin their season with a tough road contest against Pac-12 opponent Washington State on Aug. 17.

"We are really pleased with how our 2023 schedule came together. It contains a great balance of quality teams from a number of different conferences that should challenge our team in different ways and prepare us well for a run at a Big Sky Conference Championship," head coach Missy Strasburg said. "Certainly, some of the major highlights of our non-conference schedule will be the season opener at Washington State, which is an incredible environment for our players to play against a top college team so early in the season. Then we have some top-quality opponents coming into Cheney, in the University of Nebraska, San Diego State, and Saint Mary's College. That should both test us and provide our team the opportunity to put our style and competitiveness up against some of the very best."

(NOTE: An earlier version of this announcement stated the season opener was Aug. 7 at Washington, which is an exhibition game. The Eagles' first regular season game is at Washington State on Aug. 17. This has been clarified and updated herein.)

In total, the team plays nine games at home, with five non-conference and four in conference.

The non-conference schedule includes visits from Nebraska (Aug. 24), San Diego State (Sept. 3) and Saint Mary's (Sept. 10).

In addition to the Cougars on Aug. 17, the Eagles will travel to Boise State (Sept. 7) for the second consecutive season.

Big Sky play opens on the road for Eastern, as they head to Pocatello, Idaho to play Idaho State on Thursday, Sept. 21. The following Sunday (Sept. 24), the Eagles will be in Ogden, Utah to play Weber State.

EWU's first home conference game will be against Montana on Thursday, Sept. 28.

After playing four of its first five conference games on the road, Eastern ends the regular season with three-straight home games. The final homestand includes the defending conference champions, Northern Arizona (Oct. 20), followed by senior day against Northern Colorado (Oct. 22) for the regular season finale.

The Big Sky tournament will be held in Flagstaff, Ariz. from Nov. 1 through Nov. 5.

In head coach Missy Strasburg's second season leading the Eagles, the team went 2-3-3 in the Big Sky and 5-8-5 overall. Eastern earned a 1-1 result against Oregon State for the team's first ever draw against a Pac-12 school in program history.

Junior forward Maddie Morgan earned Big Sky Co-Offensive MVP and Co-Golden Boot Award after scoring five goals and recording 14 points. Morgan was also named to the All-Big Sky first team. Madison Kem earned her fourth-straight first team selection after scoring three goals, with two coming on penalty kicks. Both Morgan and Kem will return for the 2023 season.

Freshman Kamryn Willoughby started 16 games in goal for the Eagles, recording four shutouts and making 85 saves.
