Eastern hosts Nebraska in Thursday evening matchup

The Eagles will look to upend a Power 5 team for their first win of the season

CHENEY, Wash. — Home openers are exciting but this season's has added importance for Eastern Washington women's soccer. The team hosts Nebraska on Thursday, Aug. 24., kicking off at 4:30 p.m. from EWU Soccer Field.

The game can be streamed live on ESPN+ and live stats can be viewed at GoEags.com. Fans can purchase tickets to the home opener either at the game or by clicking the link HERE.

The Eagles opened the regular season last week with road games against Washington State (Aug. 17) and Pacific (Aug. 20).

Eastern opened an early 1-0 lead on the Cougars that they held into the second half. WSU scored three-straight goals to get the win over the Eagles.

In the next game, EWU competed until the clock hit 90 against the Tigers in Stockton, Calif., but came up short, 3-2.

Grace Terrill scored in both games for her fourth and fifth career goals. Sophomore Delani Walker netted the first score of her collegiate career against Pacific. 

Kamryn WIlloughby has played well in net, recording 11 saves through the first two games. 

True freshman Sage Reed has made an impact on the back line for the Eagles, starting both games and playing 154 minutes. In total, four newcomers have made their debut for Eastern including Reed, Charity Freeman, Chloe Fairchild and Kendall Moore

After earning Co-Big Sky Player of the Year a season ago, Maddie Morgan leads the team with three shots, putting one on goal in 139 minutes played. The senior has registered one assist, setting up Terrill's goal against WSU. 

Scouting the Cornhuskers 
Nebraska will visit Cheney with a 1-0-1 record to begin its season. The Cornhuskers opened 2023 with a 2-2 result against Creighton in Omaha, Neb. They followed up with a 2-1 win over Baylor at home.

Head coach John Walker is beginning his 30th season with the Cornhuskers, after going 8-7-5 overall last season and 6-3-4 in the Big 10.The team has 19 returning players from the '23 team.

The offense for Nebraska runs through senior forward Eleanor Dale with one goal and two assists through the first week of competition. Sami Hauk starts for the team in net, and the senior made six saves with three goals allowed in 180 minutes on the pitch. 

This will be the first meeting between Eastern and Nebraska, along with being the first game against a Big 10 opponent for the Eagles in program history.
