CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's basketball is gearing up for the new season and has released its full 31-game 2023-24 schedule. The Eagles will play their first regular season home game at Reese Court on Nov. 16 and host the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Nov. 29.
After an exhibition against Montana Tech on Oct. 29, the regular season begins on the road for the Eagles as they visit Southern Utah on Nov. 8. Eastern knocked off the Thunderbirds in Cheney last season (62-60).
They'll host Corban University on November 16 to open a 14-game home schedule that includes five non-conference games, highlighted by back-to-back visits from Gonzaga (Nov. 29) and Boise State (Dec. 3).
Two of their road games will be in Las Vegas as the team will participate in the Vegas Holiday Hoops tournament, playing Wyoming (Dec. 21) and Presbyterian (Dec. 22).
The Eagles will compete in the inaugural Summit League Challenge, hosting Omaha on Jan. 3 before traveling to play at North Dakota on January 6.
Eastern will begin its 18-game conference schedule on the road against Portland State on Dec. 28. Big Sky play begins in Cheney on January 18 versus Weber State and the Eagles will host Idaho in a men's and women's basketball doubleheader on Feb. 10. Senior day is set for March 4 against Sacramento State.
Head coach Joddie Gleason enters her third season in Cheney after going 11-7 in the Big Sky and 19-11 overall during the 2022-23 season. The win total marked a 10-win improvement from the 2021-22 season, the best increase in program history. Eastern earned its first win in the Big Sky Tournament since 2019, defeating Montana, 72-64, to advance to the conference semifinals.
Eastern returns 16 of 17 players from last year's team, including all five starters. The group includes Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, graduate transfer Jamie Loera, who also earned All-Big Sky third team honors. Loera was joined on the third team by sophomore Jaydia Martin, earning her second career all-conference selection. Jacinta Buckley earned an All-Big Sky honorable mention for her second postseason award. The returning roster is bolstered by Ellie Boni, who transferred in from San Jose State.
