Alexander earns second Player of the Week award after Eagles 2-0 start

The redshirt-sophomore averaged over 20 points per game in the opening weekend of conference games

FARMINGTON, Utah — After sweeping the first weekend of Big Sky games, Aaliyah Alexander was named Big Sky Player of the Week, announced by the conference today. The award is Alexander's second this season, taking home the weekly honor in the first week of the season. It is the redshirt-sophomore's third overall in her career. 

Alexander led Eastern Washington to a 2-0 record in the opening weekend of the Big Sky schedule. The Federal Way, Wash. native averaged 22.0 points per game and shot 55.2 percent from the floor and was 6-of-11(54.5%) from three-point range. Alexander was also tied for second on the team with 6.0 rebounds per game. She added two assists and two steals. 

In EWU's 60-33 win over Sacramento State, Alexander notched her second double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds, both game-highs. Alexander shot 60 percent from the floor in the game.

In the opening conference game of the season against Portland State, Alexander scored 21 points on 50 percent shooting to power a 68-58 win. She added two rebounds and one assist in the game.

This season, Alexander is second in the conference in scoring with 16.3 points per game. Her 48.7 field goal percentage and 82.6 free throw percentage rank third in the Big Sky. Alexander averages 1.7 made threes per game to tie for eighth. 

Eastern Washington hosts Omaha on Wednesday (Jan. 3) for the inaugural BigSky-Summit League Challenge. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
