CHENEY, Wash. — The gifts continue to arrive early for Eastern Washington football as three Eagles earn All-American honors from FCS Football Central, announced today.
Efton Chism III earns his fourth award and third first-team All-American honor for his senior season.
Michael Wortham continues to add awards as an All-Purpose player with a first team selection and
Wyatt Hansen picks up his second postseason award with a third team honor.
Chism closed out his Eastern legacy with a record breaking season, catching 120 passes to surpass Cooper Kupp's program record 117 catches in the 2016 season. Chism broke the EWU and FCS record with 53 consecutive games with a catch, previously held by Kupp (52 games). Overall in 2024, Chism had 1311 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, with the yards total ranking 10th and the touchdowns tied for 10th on the single-season, all-time lists.
Chism led the FCS this season in receptions, while ranking second in yards and fourth in touchdowns.
The record season for Chism solidified the Monroe, Wash native's legacy as an Eagle. Chism ranks second in Eastern history - behind Kupp - with 346 career receptions and 6.53 receptions per game. With 3852 career receiving yards, Chism ranks third in program history and fourth with 37 touchdowns.
Earlier this week, Chism earned first team All-American honors from the Associated Press and
Stats Perform. He also was slated on the Big Sky's All-Conference first team.
Wortham ended his Eagle career with a record-breaking season as well, setting the program mark with 1093 kick return yards this season. The senior averaged 28.8 yards per return and Wortham's season was highlighted by a 100-plus yard kickoff return against Idaho (10/26), the first of his career. Wortham's kick return touchdown was the first since Dre'Sonte Dorton's 90-yard return against Jacksonville State in 2019.
The All-Purpose label is warranted for Wortham as he averaged 134.58 yards of total offense a game, ranking second in the Big Sky and 10th in the FCS. Effective across the board, Wortham found the endzone seven times this season (5 rushing, 1 receiving and 1 return). The North Highlands, Calif. native was second on the team with 25 receptions and third with 209 receiving yards. Wortham carried the ball 36 times for 325 yards, both fifth on the team. At quarterback, Wortham completed 6-of-9(77.7%) passes for 88 yards and threw two touchdowns.
Wortham landed on the Stats Perform second team at the all-purpose spot awarded yesterday and was a first team All-Conference selection for the Big Sky.
Hansen capped his Eastern career with 52 starts, encompassing every game he appeared in the last five seasons. With Hansen anchoring the line, EWU ranked fourth in the conference and 15th in the nation, allowing only 1.17 sacks per game. The team averages 229.3 rushing yards per game to rank fifth in the FCS and 2nd in the Big Sky. The Eagle offense averaged 35.8 points per game, ranking second in the conference and seventh in the nation.
Hansen earned an Honorable mention from the AP earlier this week and earned a first team All-Conference award from the Big Sky for the '24 season.
