CHENEY, Wash. — The Eastern Washington women's soccer team continued its dominant form with a 2-0 shutout win over Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon in Cheney. The victory marked the Eagles' third straight win and third consecutive shutout as they head into Big Sky Tournament play with confidence and momentum on their side.
After a scoreless first half,
Delani Walker broke through in the 53rd minute to give Eastern the lead, then sealed the match in the final minute with her second goal of the day off assists from
Kendall Moore and
Faith Hines. Goalkeeper
Kamryn Willoughby anchored the defense with six saves, while the back line stayed disciplined to preserve another clean sheet.
Head coach
Missy Strasburg praised her team's execution and growth as they prepare for postseason play. "Big win, securing your own destiny heading into the tournament," Strasburg said. "Lani's a competitor, and she's been showing what it means to fight for the team's success. She's riding high confidence-wise going into conference tournament play."
Strasburg also credited the defense for its consistency down the stretch. "Three straight shutouts is a testament to our back line and goalkeeping," she said. "We've trained hard to tighten up some details, and the group's commitment to doing the right things defensively has really paid off."
With three consecutive wins and a defense that hasn't allowed a goal in over 270 minutes, the Eagles enter the Big Sky Tournament as one of the conference's hottest and most confident teams.
"Last year, being back in the tournament for the first time in those women's careers, there was some tightness. We just weren't as free. But that experience made us better. The team said right after that game, 'We'll be back, and we'll be better for it.' Now is the time to prove that. We've got a week to train and stay sharp, keeping that intensity high so we can carry this momentum into the postseason."
