CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington men's basketball has added two high-impact playmakers to its 2026-27 signing class, welcoming Malachi Richmond and Lance Horntvedt Jr. to Cheney. Both signees bring elite production, winning pedigree, and the ability to make an immediate impact in the Big Sky.
 
Malachi Richmond | Guard | Edge Prep | Vancouver, British Columbia
Richmond joins the Eagles after a standout run at the NPA National Championship Playoffs, where he averaged 24.2 points, 5.3 assists, shot 63% from the field, and an impressive 47.8% from three. Widely regarded as one of the top players in Canada, he enters the program as the No. 10 ranked player nationally and the No. 3 point guard in his class.
 
Monson on Richmond:
"Malachi is a mature, heady point guard that impacts winning in a multitude of ways. He has a great feel for the game and can create for himself and others on the offensive end. Defensively, he's a great athlete that will be able to guard at the college level right away. Additionally, Malachi is a mature young man who will positively impact our locker room."
 
Lance Horntvedt Jr. | Guard/Wing | Richland High School | Richland, Wash.
A local standout staying close to home, Horntvedt signs with Eastern after an explosive junior campaign at Richland High School, averaging 23 points and 8 rebounds per game and is ranked seventh in Washington State. His dominant production earned him First Team All-MCC honors and Second Team All-State recognition. Considered one of Washington's premier prospects, Horntvedt brings size, versatility, and shooting ability to the EWU 2026 roster.
