Eagles Set Nine PRs at Inland Northwest Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. — Eastern Washington University track and field athletes set nine personal records at the Inland Northwest Invitational, hosted by Whitworth at The Podium powered by STCU on Saturday.

"We had a lot of PRs today," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Erin Tucker. "At meets like this, it's all about executing. I feel like we accomplished a lot this weekend, and it's always great to come out of meets healthy."

"We've got four weeks until the big show," Tucker continued. "This was an unload week for many of the groups, and we'll unload again in week eight. Starting Monday, it's all about getting ready for conference. We're in Conference mode now."

Dyvhine Fonoti and Dyvhon Fonoti kicked off the competition with impressive finishes in the weight throw. Dyvhon posted a PR of 17.15m (56ft 3.25in) on her first throw, securing third place. Dyvhine followed with her best mark of 17.69m (58ft 0.50in) on her final attempt, earning second place.

Kimberly Smith (Tuti) continued her strong performance from last weekend, winning the long jump with a leap of 5.73m (18ft 9.75in). In the women's triple jump, Zoe Dunn took second place with a jump of 11.10m (36ft 5in). Suzi Woodall had a solid performance in the pole vault, clearing both the first and second bars but faltering on her third attempt. She finished tied for second with a vault of 3.81m (12ft 6in).

On the men's side, Jason Nwaka claimed victory in the shot put, setting a new PR of 16.70m (54ft 9.50in). Cort Gebbers finished seventh with a throw of 15.31m (50ft 2.75in). In the weight throw, Nwaka placed seventh, while J.J. Niuamoa secured eighth place with a PR throw of 15.59m (51ft 1.75in). In the men's triple jump, Nic Cunningham finished second with a leap of 13.41m (44ft), and also placed eighth in the long jump.

Daniel Gaik impressed in the 400m, winning with a time of 47.66. Teammate Nathan Kuhnau finished third with a PR of 49.61. In the mile, Noah Holden led the Eagles with a seventh-place finish in 4:21.31. Owen Higgins grabbed second in the 800m with a time of 1:51.63. Kristian Phennicie won the 200m with a time of 21.57, while Enoch Okoh placed fifth in 21.95.

On the women's side, Diana Fernandez stole the spotlight in the 400m, winning with a PR of 57.05. Magdalena Slomska also recorded a new PR, finishing sixth. In the mile, Sara Sanders was the top Eagle, placing fifth with a time of 5:04.65. Rylee Brandon and Ellie Linnenburger followed closely, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Rhiannon Davies ran a strong 800m, placing fifth in 2:17.33.
In the 3000m, Jasmin Muneton led the way for the Eagles, winning with a time of 10:03.70. Nattie Ruzauskas finished third, and Jenni Bissell rounded out the top five in fourth.
