CHENEY, Wash. — Academic excellence remains the standard for Eastern Washington Athletics, as the department earned a GPA above 3.0 for the 53rd consecutive quarter. Eastern's student-athletes extended the "Streak" during the winter quarter, earning a cumulative 3.35 GPA. The accomplishment was a combined effort from 315 student-athletes in 14 Division programs.

The "Streak" began in the fall quarter of 2007 and has been carried on by Eastern student-athletes for 18 years.

"I want to congratulate each one of our Eagle student-athletes for their dedication to extend our 3.0 GPA "Streak" for the 53rd consecutive quarter," Eastern Athletic Director Tim Collins said. "They are consistently performing at a high level in the classroom and this continued through the winter,"

All 14 of EWU's programs recorded a GPA above 3.0 during the winter quarter, as women's golf earned the top mark with a 3.92 GPA. Men's basketball was the top-performing male team, earning a 3.59 GPA.

Following the standard of excellence, 47 Eagle student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA. Leading the way was Women's track and football with nine 4.0 student-athletes.

"The entire athletic department continues to embrace and maintain high expectations of excellence in the classroom," Collins added. "As we continue to navigate uncertainty in the intercollegiate athletics landscape, this once again proves that our coaches and staff are committed first and foremost to serving our student-athletes."

The Eagles boast an overall cumulative GPA of 3.60 among the 14 programs and 315 student-athletes through the winter quarter.
