CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's soccer battled from behind to even things up, but a late goal by Pacific proved to be the difference in a 2-1 setback Sunday afternoon at the EWU Sports & Recreation Field.
The Tigers struck early in the 7th minute, but the Eagles controlled much of the match offensively, firing 20 total shots compared to Pacific's 13. EWU also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Eastern found its equalizer in the 48th minute when
Delani Walker netted her sixth goal of the season, capitalizing off a handball in the box for a penalty kick, to pull the Eagles level at 1-1. Walker was a force all afternoon, tallying a team-high five shots with four on target.
Despite sustained pressure in the attacking third, Pacific's goalkeeper came up with several key stops to keep the score tied. The Eagles' momentum was cut short in the closing minutes when the Tigers converted in the 90th minute with a penalty kick for the game-winner.
Kamryn Willoughby recorded five saves in net for EWU, while
Chloe Pattison and
Kendall Moore combined for seven shots to pace the Eagles' attack.
With the result, Eastern moves to 4-3-3 on the season as they wrap up non-conference play and turn their attention to Big Sky competition. They will take on Weber State on the road on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. PST.
