Eastern Comes Up Short in 1-0 Defensive Battle

GREELEY, Colo. — Eastern Washington battled for 90 minutes but came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Northern Colorado. The Eagles finished with five shots, putting two on goal, as Addison Stendera and Faith Hines each recorded a shot on target. Mia Miconi, Reese Kincaid and Deanna Montero also added attempts for Eastern. In goal, Payton Hyde delivered another strong performance, finishing with seven saves while allowing just one goal in the full 90 minutes.

Eastern Washington battled through a scoreless opening 40 minutes behind a strong performance from Hyde. The goalkeeper made saves in the 11th, 14th and 21st minutes as the Eagles absorbed pressure and kept the match level. Eastern began to find more opportunities as the half progressed, earning a corner in the 28th minute before Kincaid sent a shot over the crossbar in the 33rd.

The Eagles generated their best chance of the opening half in the 39th minute when Hines put a shot on goal. Eastern followed with a corner less than a minute later, but Northern Colorado broke through in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 advantage. Hyde responded by making two saves in the closing minutes, keeping Eastern within one heading into halftime.

Eastern continued to battle defensively after the break while looking for the equalizer. Hyde made another stop in the 60th minute and followed with her seventh save in the 65th. The Eagles began to build pressure going forward, earning corner kicks in the 63rd and 72nd minutes.

Eastern made its strongest push over the final 15 minutes. Stendera put a shot on frame in the 79th minute, forcing a save, before Miconi had an attempt blocked less than a minute later. The Eagles continued searching for the tying goal, with Montero sending an attempt just wide in the 85th minute. Eastern was unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle, closing out the 1-0 result.
