Second-Half Surge Falls Just Short for Eagles at Weber State

CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington battled back from a three-goal halftime deficit, scoring twice in the second half but coming up just short in a 3-2 loss.

Maya Bossenbrook created Eastern's first scoring chance in the seventh minute, putting a shot on frame. The Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the opening 17 minutes before beginning to generate more pressure in the attacking third. Faith Hines had a shot blocked, while Eastern earned a pair of corner kicks during the stretch.

The deficit grew to 3-0 in the 32nd minute, but Payton Hyde kept the Eagles within reach with four first-half saves, including two over the final seven minutes. Eastern went into the break with two shots and three corner kicks.

The Eagles wasted little time flipping the momentum after halftime. Bossenbrook put Eastern on the board in the 48th minute, finishing into the bottom-left corner off a feed from Reese Kincaid to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Eastern continued to push forward, creating chances through Mia Miconi, Noelle Raczykowski and Kincaid while consistently working into the attacking third. Kincaid put an attempt on frame in the 63rd minute as the Eagles continued to search for their second goal.

The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when Eastern drew a foul in the box, sending Deanna Montero to the penalty spot. Montero buried the opportunity into the bottom-left corner to make it a one-goal match at 3-2.

Eastern kept the pressure on through the final whistle, with Ella Hyde putting a shot on goal in the 86th minute. The Eagles continued to press for the equalizer over the closing minutes but could not complete the comeback.
