CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington dropped a 2-0 decision to Grand Canyon on Sunday afternoon despite generating consistent pressure throughout the match. The Eagles finished with 13 shots, placing six on goal.
Deanna Montero led Eastern with two shots on frame, while
Noelle Raczykowski recorded a team-high four attempts.
Mira Scarsella,
Maya Bossenbrook and
Faith Hines each added a shot on goal.
Payton Hyde played all 90 minutes in net, finishing with four saves.
Eastern created multiple chances early, beginning with Bossenbrook's shot on goal in the 12th minute.
Riley Roesch followed with an attempt just off target before Scarsella put another shot on frame in the 16th minute.
The Eagles fell behind in the 21st minute but continued to create opportunities in search of the equalizer. Raczykowski had a pair of attempts blocked as Eastern maintained pressure in the attacking third. Grand Canyon extended its advantage in the 37th minute to send the Eagles into halftime trailing 2-0. Eastern continued to push in the closing minutes of the half, earning a corner before Hines sent an attempt just off target.
Eastern came out of the break on the attack and continued to challenge the Grand Canyon defense. Montero provided an immediate spark off the bench, putting a shot on goal in the 52nd minute before adding another attempt on frame in the 61st.
Iris Mattern followed with a shot just off target as the Eagles looked to cut into the deficit.
The Eagles continued to apply pressure down the stretch. Raczykowski recorded two shots in a three-minute span, including an attempt on goal in the 78th minute. Bossenbrook had a shot blocked in the 81st before Hines forced another save moments later.
Eastern earned one final corner in the 87th minute but was unable to break through, holding Grand Canyon scoreless throughout the second half while ultimately falling 2-0.
