CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington athletics is moving into the hearts of its season, with one at home and two on the road. Soccer looks to finish up its homestand strong with another non-conference matchup. Football travels to play a ranked South Dakota team on Saturday. Volleyball heads to Boise for its second tournament and three matches.
Football - at South Dakota (Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m.)
The Eagles continue through their non-conference, heading to Vermillion, S.D. to take on the South Dakota Coyotes on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Dakota Dome. The game is streamed live on MidCo Sports and ESPN+. Listen to the game live with voices of the Eagles, Larry Weir and Paul Sorensen.
Eastern turns around after their struggle on the road against NAU and defeats Northern Iowa comfortably 34-24 for their home opener to improve to 1-1.
Nate Bell led the offense scoring five touchdowns, rushing for two of them and hooking up with Jaxson Branch and Jamai East for the other two. Bell earned Big Sky honors for his performance Saturday. Bell was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
Jaxson Branch and Wesley Garret have been two major targets on offense as well, helping lead this year's high-powered offense.
The Eagles look to continue winning and beat South Dakota on the road before they travel across the state to take on a ranked University of Washington.
Soccer – vs Grand Canyon (Sunday, Sept. 13 at 12:00 p.m.) - Free Admission
Eastern Washington soccer continues its non-conference schedule this week as the Eagles prepare to host Grand Canyon on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the EWU Soccer Field.
Eastern enters the week with a 5-1 record after suffering its first loss of the season on Sunday against Wyoming. Despite the setback, the Eagles have put together one of the strongest starts in program history, opening the season with five consecutive wins.
Through six matches, Eastern has earned victories over Bucknell, UIC, Western Illinois, CSU Bakersfield and Air Force. The Eagles have also been strong defensively throughout the opening stretch, with goalkeeper Payton Hyde anchoring the back line.
Offensively, Mia Miconi has helped lead the attack during her first season with the Eagles, while Ella Hyde, Reese Kincaid and Deanna Montero have also found the back of the net this season.
Eastern will look to bounce back at home against Grand Canyon before heading back on the road to face Air Force on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Volleyball – Boise State Classic - vs Saint Mary's (Thursday, Sept. 10 at 3:30 p.m. PST); vs Sacramento State (Friday, Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. PST); at Boise State (Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1:00 p.m. PST)
Eastern Washington volleyball continues its non-conference schedule this week, traveling to Boise, Idaho for three matches at the Boise State Tournament.
The Eagles open the weekend against Saint Mary's on Thursday, Sept. 10, before facing Sacramento State on Friday, Sept. 11. Eastern closes out the tournament against host Boise State on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Eastern enters the weekend with a 5-1 record after going 2-1 at the Gonzaga Invitational. The Eagles earned five-set victories over Oral Roberts and
Gonzaga, while their lone setback came in five sets against
Cal State Fullerton.
Kalista Lukovich continued her strong start to the season, eclipsing 60 kills, 34 digs, six blocks and two service aces across the three matches. She recorded double-doubles in both Eastern victories, finishing with 19 kills and 12 digs against Oral Roberts before adding 19 kills and 13 digs against Gonzaga. With that performance, she earned Big Sky offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Through the first two weekends of the season, Eastern has posted a 5-1 record, including a perfect 3-0 showing at the Steve Nimocks Redhawk Invitational to open the year.
The Eagles will look to carry that momentum into Boise before returning home for the EWU Tournament, Sept. 17-19, where Eastern will host Nevada, CSU Bakersfield and Portland.
