2011: Started three games after Zach Johnsonwas lost for the season with a knee injury. Washburn had aseason-high 12 tackles against Cal Poly (11/12/11) in EWU’s53-51 triple-overtime victory. He also had eight stops againstMontana State (9/24/11) and five versus Montana (9/17/11). Did notparticipate in spring drills because of surgery following a kneeinjury suffered late in the 2010 season.
2010: Started all 15 games, and came up withone of the biggest plays in the NCAA Championship SubdivisionPlayoffs with a 15-yard fumble return for a touchdown in thesemifinals against Villanova (12/17/10). David Gaylord forced thefumble as EWU took a 34-24 lead with 13:56 left in the game beforewinning by a 41-31 margin. However, Washburn played sparingly inthe NCAA Division I Championship Game (1/7/11) after suffering aknee injury in a practice before the game. He had only one tacklein the 20-19 victory over Delaware, but two games earlier, he had aseason-high 10 with a pass broken up in a 38-31 overtime victoryover North Dakota State (12/11/10) in the quarterfinals. He hadnine tackles in a 37-17 first-round victory over Southeast MissouriState (12/4/10), and earlier in the season had nine tackles inback-to-back games versus Weber State (10/2/10) and NorthernArizona (10/9/10). He also had an interception and 32-yard returnversus Weber State. He returned an interception 55 yards(21st-longest in school history) for a touchdown and had threetackles in a 35-32 win over Central Washington (9/11/10), as heearned honorable mention accolades nationally by the CollegeFootball Performance Awards. His performance against CWU alsoearned him team defensive player of the week honors. He helped theEagle defense rank first nationally in interceptions (total of 26)and turnovers gained (47), and finish sixth nationally in red zonedefense, as it allowed just 38 scores in 58 opponent trips insidethe Eagle 20-yard line.
2009: Played in all 12 Eastern games, includingfour as a starter as an injury replacement for senior Kyle Wilkins.He made his first career start against Montana (10/17/09) and hadnine tackles, then had a season-high 11 against Montana State(10/24/09). He had nine versus Portland State (10/31/09) and fiveversus Southern Utah (10/14/09) before a knee injury kept him outof the starting lineup for EWU’s final two games of theseason.
2008: Redshirted.
HS: Graduated from Skyline HS in 2008. Named bythe Seattle Times as a “White Chip” selectionas one of the top 100 prospects in the state of Washington. Was afirst team All-KingCo 3A League selection as a running back. Herushed 212 times for 1,388 yards (6.6 per carry) and 21 touchdowns.He also caught nine passes for 78 yards and a score. He helped leadSkyline to a perfect 14-0 record and the State 3A title with a42-35 victory over O’Dea in the championship game. His topperformance of the season was 190 yards in a 28-0 victory overMount Si. He earned honorable mention All-KingCo 3A League honorsas a junior when he had 59 carries for 335 yards (5.7 per carry)and five touchdowns. He also caught six passes for 60 yards. HisEagle teammates Evan Day (’10) and Jase Butorac (’10)also attended Skyline, and former Eagle Jason Harris (’06)and Washburn helped the school win the State 4A title in 2005.
