High School:

Emily Johnson is an in-state addition from Washougal, Wash., where she attended Washougal High School and earned four varsity letters in both volleyball and tennis.

Johnson earned All-Greater Saint Helens League First-Team honors as a senior as well as a Washington State 2A All-State honorable mention nod for volleyball. As a sophomore, she was named second-team All-Greater Saint Helens before being named to the first-team as a junior.

During her time at Washougal, she helped the Panthers place third in the league standings for the first time in 30 years. From there, her squad qualified for the district tournament where they placed fifth during her junior year. As a senior, they earned a fourth-place finish and qualified for the district tournament for the second-straight year.

She also led her club team to Junior Nationals in Dallas, Texas, as a senior.

Johnson has excelled on the tennis court as well. She was named All-Greater Saint Helens League First-Team Doubles as a sophomore and junior and landed on the second-team as a senior. As a sophomore, she brought Washougal its first 2A GHSL title in school history and qualified for districts as a doubles player where she finished seventh. She followed up with another 2A GHSL title as a junior and placed second at sub-districts and fifth at districts as a doubles player. Her senior season, she placed second in the GHSL and took third at sub-districts, fourth at districts in doubles and earned an alternate position for the state championships.

Johnson is also a high-achiever academically, as she has already earned her AA Degree from Clark College where she graduated with honors and earned a spot on the Dean’s List for the Running Start program. She graduated from Washougal in the top five-percent of her class and earned at least a 3.95 GPA all four years.

Johnson also earned an Outstanding Jazz Musician Award at the Clark Jazz Festival for solo. She plans on majoring in music theory with a composition emphasis and education at Eastern Washington with aspirations of becoming an elementary school teacher while continuing to compose music.

Thoughts from Flores-Cloud:

“Emily is a Washington native we’re bringing on. That’s really exciting because we want to get Washington kids. Emily is an amazing athlete. She rock climbs, she does it all and is a tennis stud. We’re excited to get her to focus in on volleyball when she gets here. She’s got really great hands, she’s quick and has so much speed and we’re excited to use that.”
