Biography

2010: Listed as a starter at free safety onEWU’s preseason depth chart. He had 14 tackles in four springscrimmages, as well as a pair of passes broken up.

2009: Was a non-lettering squad member, but hadfive tackles against California (9/12/09) in his most significantaction of the season.

WSU: Played baseball for a short time in fall2008 at Washington State University before transferring to EWU.

HS: Graduated from Franklin Pierce HS in 2008.The Tacoma News Tribune selected him to its All-State teamas a defensive back. He also earned first team 3A All-State honorsas a defensive back from WashingtonPreps.com. Selected to play inthe 4A/3A East-West All-State Game. The TNT also picked him asfirst team All-Area quarterback and its co-Offensive MVP. TheSeattle Post-Intelligencer also selected him to itsAll-Area team but was its Defensive MVP. Named by the SeattleTimes as a “White Chip” selection as one of thetop 100 prospects in the state of Washington. Was a first teamAll-South Puget Sound League 3A selection as a quarterback anddefensive back, and was the league’s Most Valuable Player onboth sides of the ball. Including playoff games, he had 17interceptions as a senior and eight as a junior. He completed155-of-287 passes for 2,410 yards, 36 touchdowns and 10interceptions in the regular season as a senior. He also rushed for491 yards and four touchdowns. He led Franklin Pierce to a 12-0record before losing to eventual champion Skyline 48-14 in thesemifinals of the WIAA State 3A Playoffs. As a junior, Armstrongsuffered a concussion and lost his job as quarterback at FranklinPierce. His position coach at Franklin Pierce was former WashingtonState quarterback Jason Gesser. The head coach at Franklin Pierce,Howard Lutton, compared Armstrong’s athletic ability toformer Franklin Pierce and EWU standout Eric Kimble. Kimble was atwo-time All-American and finished his career with a school-record253 catches and a Big Sky Conference record of 4,140 yards. His 46career touchdown catches were second in NCAA Football ChampionshipsSubdivision history behind the 50 of legendary Jerry Rice.Armstrong finished his high school career with four letters inbaseball and three in basketball. As a senior he was All-State inbaseball, earning first team honors as an outfielder by both theWashington State Baseball Coaches Association and the media. Healso played in the All-State series after hitting .410 with eighthome runs, 31 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases. As a pitcher hewas 3-1 with a 3.03 earned run average and 24 strikeouts. He helpedlead Franklin Pierce to the quarterfinals of the WIAA State 3APlayoffs for the second-straight year. He earned second teamAll-State accolades as a sophomore and junior in baseball, and alsoearned honorable mention All-State honors from the SeattlePost-Intelligencer as a center fielder as a junior.
