2010: In July, Sherritt was one of 20 playersselected by the Sports Network to its “Watch List” forthe 2010 Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the top defensiveplayer in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. Selected as afirst team selection on both the Phil Steele College FootballPreview Magazine and the Consensus Draft Services preseason FCSfootball All-America teams. A panel of media and sports informationdirectors also selected him to its preseason All-BSC squad. Wasalso selected as a preseason first team All-Big Sky selection byPhil Steele. Listed as a starter at strong-side inside linebackeron EWU’s preseason depth chart.
2009: Earning a clean sweep as a member of allsix post-season All-America teams in the FCS in 2009, Sherritt ledFCS in tackles with an average of 14.17 tackles per game. Hefinished second in the voting for the Buck Buchanan Award given tothe top defensive player in FCS. Sherritt was one of 10 unanimouschoices on the “Fabulous Fifty” All-America squad asselected by the College Sporting News, and was also named as afirst team All-American on four other teams -- Associated Press,American Football Coaches Association, Sports Network, the WalterCamp Football Foundation and The All-American Football Foundation.The only other Eagles to earn five first team All-America honors inthe same year were offensive tackle Jim Buzzard in 1997 and GregPeach in 2008 on his way to winning the Buck Buchanan Award.Sherritt was one of four co-captains for the Eagles in 2009, butthe only non-senior. He had a total of 170 stops in 2009 to breakthe school record of 151 set by Greg Belzer in 2000. Besides his170 tackles, Sherritt had 14 tackles for loss, four passes brokenup, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and aninterception he returned for a touchdown. Since 2000 when the BigSky and NCAA Football Championships Subdivision began keepingstatistics as a record, his tackles total was a league record andthe seventh-most in FCS, and his average of 14.17 was also a leaguerecord and 13th in FCS. He had a school-record 24 tackles versusWeber State (10/10/09), breaking the previous record of 23 set byGreg Belzer against Portland State in 1998. He also had a 36-yardinterception return for a touchdown against the Wildcats. Sherritthad 17 more tackles against Montana (10/17/09) and 18 againstMontana State (10/24/09) to help move him into the national lead --a lead he would not relinquish the rest of the season. Hisperformance against the Grizzlies ranks as the 16th-most in schoolhistory and his 18 versus MSU is seventh. Sherritt earned Big SkyConference Defensive Player of the Week honors for thesecond-straight week when he had 15 tackles, with 2 1/2 for loss,two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in EWU’s 56-30victory over Sacramento State (9/26/09). The previous week, he had15 versus Northern Colorado (9/19/09) to earn BSC Defensive Playerof the Week accolades for his efforts. Sherritt was also selectedas one of four National All-Stars by College Sporting News for hisperformance in the 16-0 shutout that was Eastern’s first atWoodward Field since 1983. The Eagles have had six other shutoutssince then either on the road or in Spokane, including a 34-0 winover UNC in 2006. He was selected as the team’s defensiveplayer of the week against UNC and WSU.
2008: Earned honorable mention All-Big SkyConference honors. Named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academicteam. Started eight games at weak-side inside linebacker, butmissed the final two games with a knee injury. He also missed theWestern Washington game (9/20/08) with a sprained ankle that hesuffered on his 48-yard interception return for a touchdown versusColorado (9/6/08). Against Montana (10/11/08) he was chosen as theteam’s special teams player of the week and subsequently wasone of three team co-captains the following week. Sherritt had aseason-high 15 tackles versus Montana (10/11/08) and two gamesearlier had 12 versus Idaho State (9/27/08). He helped Easternfinish an impressive 11th in the NCAA Football ChampionshipSubdivison in rushing defense (93.5), as well as fifth in sacks(3.09 per game) and ninth nationally in tackles for loss (7.9 pergame).
2007: Named to the Big Sky ConferenceAll-Academic team. Did not start, but saw significant action as alinebacker and on special teams. He had an interception againstMontana State (10/13/07) and a season-high seven tackles in hisnext game versus Brigham Young (11/20/07) when he had theteam’s big hit of the week.
2006: Redshirted.
HS: Graduated from Pullman HS in 2006. Was theSeattle Times 2A State Player of the Year after leadingPullman to a perfect 14-0 record and the State 2A championship.Earned first team 2A All-State honors as a linebacker fromAssociated Press as selected by sportswriters and broadcasters. Inaddition, WashingtonPreps.com selected him to its 2A All-Statefirst team as a linebacker. Named by the Seattle Times asa “Red Chip” selection as one of the top 29 recruits inthe state of Washington. He was the Great Northern League DefensiveMost Valuable Player, earning first team all-league honors as alinebacker and second team accolades as a running back. He rushedfor 1,158 yards on 131 carries (8.8 yards per carry) with 19touchdowns. As a junior, Sherritt earned honorable mentionAll-State honors from WashingtonPreps.com. He was a firstteam All-GNL running back and second team linebacker. His EWUteammate Ashton Gant (’06) also attended Pullman HS.
