HS: Graduated from Durham HS in 2011. Earned second-team All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Northern Section honors after quarterbacking his team to a 10-2 record and the CIF Northern Section Division III Championship. He was also a first-team All-Sacramento Valley League selection after completing 118 of 206 passes (57.3 percent) for 1,655 yards, 22 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He was 16-of-21 for 227 yards and a touchdown in a 27-3 win over Hamilton, and had four touchdown passes in victories over Clear Lake (48-6) and University Prep (49-6). The four touchdown passes against University Prep were the only passes he completed on six pass attempts, as he finished with 156 yards passing in the romp. He also rushed for 585 yards on 101 carries (5.79 per rush) and 11 touchdowns. He had 274 total yards in a pair of playoff games, including 141 passing and 133 rushing. As a junior, he was 71-of-163 (43.6 percent) for 941 yards, 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 543 yards on 94 carries (5.8 per carry) as his team finished the season 7-4. He lettered as a sophomore, but played sparingly at quarterback.
