Biography

Hayford on McBroom:  “Austin brings us immediate experience in the backcourt, which is where we have the highest concentration of youth. He is a proven player that can really shoot and has excellent floor-leading skills. This is a great addition for us to add a high-quality person and player.” 

Saint Louis: Played in 66 career games as a Billiken, with 15 starts and an average of 20.8 minutes per game. He averaged 7.0 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.7 steals while making 36.4 percent of his shots from the field overall (143-of-393), 38.4 percent from the 3-point stripe (86-of-224) and 84.8 percent from the free throw line (89-of-105). As a junior in the 2014-15 season, he played in all 32 games for Saint Louis, which finished 11-21 overall and 3-15 in the Atlantic-10 Conference. He averaged 20.2 minutes, 6.7 points and 1.6 assists while starting 15 games. He made 42-of-98 3-point attempts for 42.9 percent. He opened the season with 24 points in a 62-59 win over Southern Illinois, then had a career-high 26 on Nov. 29, 2014, in a 60-57 win over Bradley. He made 6-of-9 3-pointers in that game and was 9-of-14 overall. As a sophomore in the 2013-14 season, he played in all 34 games, starting once, and finished fifth on the squad in scoring with a 7.3 average. He was the top 3-point shooter for the Billikens in makes (44) and percentage (34.9 percent). He also made 90.3 percent (56-of-62) from the free throw line, the second-best percentage in a single season in school history. He had a trio of 3-pointers and made all six of his free throws en route to season-high 17 points in the win at Dayton. He scored all 11 of his points at Duquesne in the second half, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining. In his lone start of the year, McBroom scored 16 points and nailed four 3-pointers against Yale. His career high for assists came as a sophomore when he had six against Indiana State on Dec. 18, 2013.  The Billikens played in the NCAA Tournament that season, beating North Carolina State 83-80 before falling to Louisville 66-51. Saint Louis was ranked as high as eighth in the nation and finished 27-7 in the 2013-14 campaign. In his redshirt season in 2012-13, the Billikens were also 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament, ranked as high as 15th and closed the year 28-7. THey defeated New Mexico State in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Oregon 74-57.

Central Michigan: Named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman team after averaging 10.9 points per game and a team-best 2.7 assists in the 2011-12 season. He started 30 of 31 games for the Chippewas, leading CMU in scoring on five occasions and scoring in double figures 19 times. He was one of the squad's top 3-point shooters, nailing 56 treys while shooting 42 percent from the arc. He had a season-high 20 points against Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

High School: Graduated from Campbell Hall School in North Hollywood, Calif., in 2011. He was a heralded three-sport athlete while also playing football and baseball. He averaged 25.1 points per game his senior season en route to being named first-team All-CIF Division 3AA. He earned All-State honors in both basketball and football. As a freshman, he played on the state championship team for the Vikings that also featured Jrue Holiday (now with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA). He was a running back on the football team and played shortstop on the baseball squad.
