Biography

Hayford on Hill: “We are hoping Danielwill give us valuable minutes off the bench as a backup pointguard. He is respected by his teammates as a leader in the lockerroom.”

2013-14: Hill earned Big Sky ConferenceAll-Academic honors for the second-straight season. After earlyseason illness and injury, Hill played in nine of EWU’s last11 games and a total of 17 for the season. He averaged 6.5 minutes,1.3 points and 0.6 assists per game, and made his lone start of theseason against North Dakota (3/1/14) and played 16 minutes. Onegame earlier versus Northern Colorado (2/27/14), he played in aseason-high 18 minutes and finished with six points – all atthe free throw line – three rebounds and four assists. Allthree statistics were season highs for him.

2012-13:
Was one of a school-record nine Eagles to beselected to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team. Afterbecoming eligible in mid-December, Hill averaged 1.8 points, 1.5assists and 1.3 rebounds per game in an average of 11.9 minutes pergame (22 total games with three starts). He made the first start ofhis career at point guard at North Dakota (1/17/13) as an injuryreplacement for Kevin Winford, and he had a season-high fiveassists, four rebounds and a steal in 38 minutes. He also had fiveassists one game later versus Northern Colorado (1/19/13) when heplayed 35 minutes in place of Winford for the second-straight game.Hill had three assists in EWU’s 82-59 win over NorthernArizona (1/10/13), and a season-high eight points in his third gameas an Eagle in a 57-54 victory over Idaho State(12/22/13).

High School:
Graduated from Newington College High Schoolin 2011. He led Newington to a runner-up finish in the AustralianSchools Championships. He made a 3-pointer to knot the score at 79,but his team lost 81-79, as he finished with 20 points and wasselected as the tournament MVP. He was a four-year starter and ledhis team to the conference championship all four seasons, and alsoserved as captain. His school was first in the state and second inthe nation in 2010, first in state and third in the nation in 2009and third in the state in 2008. He was selected to the New SouthWales Independent Schools All-State team from 2009-11, averaging15.1 points, 4.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game in that span. Hillplayed on Australia’s U-17 National Team, which placed sixthin the 2010 U-17 World Championships in Germany. In the tournamenton July 3, 2010, his team lost 76-68 to Canada and Gonzaga pointguard Kevin Pangos. Both players had three assists, and Hill hadfour points and Pangos scored nine. Also in 2010, Hill made agame-winning 3-pointer with five seconds remaining to lead his NewSouth Wales Metro squad to the Australian U-18 Men’s NationalChampionship with a 57-55 victory over VIC Metro (BasketballVictoria). He also led the U-20 NSW team to a fourth-place finishin 2011, and he served in a captain’s role for all threeteams. He also played club basketball for the Sutherland Sharks,and competed in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) in2009.  He was also selected to compete for the AustralianInstitute of Sport (AIS) men’s basketball program. Inaddition, he participated in the 2011 Nike All-Asia Camp and wasselected to the all-star team. He was also selected to theall-tournament team in the Avery Air Invitational Tournament inPlano, Texas. Twice he earned awards as sportsman of the year– one each at the high school and club levels.

Personal: He was born on Jan. 4, 1993, in Sydney,Australia. Is majoring in urban and regional planning and has agrade point average of 3.82. His parents are Les and Vicki Hill.His fellow Australians Venky Jois and Felix Von Hofe are also inthe Eastern program.
