Xiaoyun Song- Angela - was hired as an assistant coach at Eastern Washington University in August of 2024 by head coach Joddie Gleason.
Song brings her wealth of international experience to the team as a former elite basketball player for the Chinese National Women’s Basketball Team, where she played as a key point guard from 2001 to 2013. Song competed in three Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012), two Asian Games (2002, 2006), and multiple FIBA Women’s Basketball World Championships. Her impressive playing career includes winning two Asian Games championships and the Asian Championship title in 2003 and 2005, as well as finishing 4th at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. From 2017 to 2019, Song served as the assistant coach for the Chinese National Youth Women's Basketball Team. In 2021, Song became a FIBA Level 1 instructor, further establishing her credentials as a coach. She has also been involved with the prestigious Nike All-Asia Training Camps and will take on the role of Head Coach for the Women’s Division in 2024. Song is a signed Nike coach, reflecting her influence and leadership in the sport.
Song holds a master's degree in Sports Education and Training from Beijing Sport University, further solidifying her strong academic and athletic background.
