Head Coach Wendy Schuller: "Jessica Huntingtonis a captain and a senior who has played a ton of minutes over thepast four years. For me as a coach, it's just refreshing to knowthat we have point guards who have experience and who understandwhat we want to do. She is a leader and will guide the team.Jessica does a great job - she understands our system, playsextremely hard, and she is a solid defender. She made hugestrides last year in her ability to shoot the ball - she shot thethree well last season at over 40 percent. Offensively, I see Jesscontinuing to evolve into a scoring point guard."
2009-10: One of four co-captains for theEagles. She enters her senior season with 302 career assists,ranking eighth in school history.
2008-09: Huntington was named to the Big SkyConference All-Academic team. She was one of the steadiest pointguards in the country in her junior season, as her assist-turnoverratio of 1.85 (94-to-50) was the tops in the Big Sky and 23rd bestamong Division I players. She also averaged 3.24 assists per game,placing seventh in that category among league players. Sheconverted 40.7 of her three-point attempts (22-of-54), thesixth-best average in Eastern Washington history.
2007-08: Huntington averaged 5.36 assists pergame in 2007-08, the fourth-highest average in the Big SkyConference and good enough to rank her 25th among all NCAA DivisionI players. In fact, the point guard had 150 total assists, theseventh-highest total in school history. Huntington'sassist-to-turnover ratio of 1.76 (150-to-85) placed her 46thnationally and sixth in the league. She was also 14th in the BigSky with 1.14 steals per contest and ninth in minutes per game with32.86. Huntington earned mention to the Big Sky ConferenceAll-Academic team, as well. Against Portland State on Jan.26, the sophomore had the first double-digit assist total by anyEagle in more than five years with 10 (Michelle Demetruk had 11against the Vikings on Jan. 25, 2003). Versus Idaho State inPocatello, she had an incredible 10-to-0 assist-to-turnover ratio.She then contributed an Eagle season-high 11 assists and shot aperfect 5-of-5 from the floor against the Vikings on March 1.
2006-07: Huntington was honored as a member ofthe Big Sky All-Academic team for winter quarter 2007. She finishedsecond on the squad in shooting percentage, hitting at a 44.2percent clip (23-of-52). Huntington had a good reboundingperformance in Eastern's season-opening victory over Montana Tech,grabbing five boards. She contributed six assists as EWU defeatedCorban College to move to 3-0 for the first time in 22 years. Shenailed both three-point attempts in a 77-67 loss to Texas-SanAntonio. Huntington then took over in the last eight seconds ofEastern's tough loss to Idaho State. With Eastern down by eight,she nailed a three, stole the inbound pass and made a lay-up whilebeing fouled. After she made the ensuing free throw, a missed ISUlay-up allowed EWU to get the ball back with 1.3 seconds left, butthe Eagles were not able to get a shot off. She ended the game with10 points, six in those final eight seconds.
High School: Huntington was named the 2004-05Central Washington Athletic Conference Player of the Year. In herEast Valley High School career, she averaged 9.0 points, 6.5assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest. Her EVHS squadfinished 25-2 in both her junior and senior seasons. The squad wonthe 2A state championship her freshman year and finished in the topsix at state each of the next three years. Her final three years atEVHS, she was named all-state. Huntington played AAU basketball forNorthwest Sagebrush.
Personal: Born 11/22/88 in Yakima, Wash. She isthe daughter of Reneè Weyrick and was also raised by hergrandparents, Vern and Glenda Upson. She has a brother, Jason, 18,and a twin sister, Jennifer, 21. Huntington is majoring in mathelementary education.
