Mark played at Vernon Secondary in Vernon, B.C., Canada prior to moving to Cheney. Vernon Secondary won the 2023 B.C. Provincial Championship and Johnson earned championship MVP honors. During the season, he lined up all over the place, taking snaps at right tackle, defensive tackle, defensive end, middle linebacker and long snapper, earning Provincial MVP. He was also an all-conference basketball player. Johnson chose Eastern over offers from several schools including Bryant University. He was coached at Vernon by former CFL All-Star Angus Reid.
