Pete Showler was hired as an associate head coach by Chad Bodnar on April 26, 2018. The start of the 2019 season begins his second year on staff. Showler is a native of England and brings more than 33 years of coaching experience to the program.

Showler heads to Cheney after serving as the executive and technical director at the Cook Inlet Soccer Club in Anchorage, Alaska where he was fully responsible for the club’s day-to-day operations since January 2017.

The Eagles finished the season with a winning record for the fourth-straight year during Showler's first season and ended 2018 with an overall record of 8-8-3 and picked up seven shutouts.

Three Eagles earned All-Big Sky Honors in honorable mention selections Maia Inniss and Allison Raniere. Jenny Chavez was named to the first-team for the third time in her career. Chavez ended her career with 23 goals and 46 points, both of which are third all-time in program history.

Kelsee Winston was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week two times in 2018. The sophomore recorded 76 total saves and a single-season save percentage of .835 which is second all-time in program history.

Eastern scored 24 total goals which is the seventh-most in program history for goals in a single season in addition to 15 assists which is the eighth-most.

As a unit, the Eagles took 295 total shots on the year which is to fourth all-time in the EWU record book. The team took 126 total shots on goal which is also fourth. Collectively they took 112 corner kicks which is third-all time in the program record book and led the Big Sky. EWU ranked second overall in the Big Sky in total shots and goals.
Showler joined the Eagles with a wealth of Big Sky Conference coaching experience. From 2005 to 2014, Showler served as the head coach of the Idaho Vandals women’s soccer team, formerly in the WAC. He led the Vandals to three WAC Tournament quarterfinals in four years, including the semifinals in 2012. He became the winningest coach in program history, leading the Vandals to their best record of 14-7 in 2010.

Prior to his stint at Idaho, Showler was the assistant coach at Portland State from 2003 to 2005 where he helped the Vikings reach the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament after tying for first during the regular season.

Showler’s coaching career began as the director of coaching at the Salem United Soccer Club in Salem, Ore., from 1999 to 2003. During that time, he also held the head coaching position at the United States Soccer Federation where he helped coaching and select the regional teams for the Region IV Olympic Development Program.

He has also had stints at the NW Premier Soccer Academy where he served as an executive director. Following his time there, he was the sporting director at Eastside Timbers Soccer Club and Thorns Academy. Prior to his time at the Cook Inlet Soccer Club, he was the executive director and part-owner at the NW Soccer Locker.

Along with a USSF A license, he also has experience with the United States Youth Soccer Association and the Oregon and Alaska Youth Soccer Association. He played college and semi-pro soccer in England before coming to the United States in 1999.

Showler has a degree in teaching with a physical education and outdoor education emphasis from the University of Sunderland in the UK. He and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 10 years and have two dogs, Chance and Oban.
