Prior to Eastern Washington:
Spoja comes to Eastern Washington after one season at Carroll College. The 6-0 outside hitter is the daughter of first year assistant coach, Angela Spoja (Frederick), who also played volleyball for the Eagles from 1995-96 under head coach Pam Parks.
Spoja hails from Puyallup, Wash., where she had a standout prep career at Puyallup High School. Spoja still holds the school record for most kills per game (4.62), most total kills (507) and most attempts (1,218). She twice earned an honorable mention all-conference nod and earned second-team all-state honors as a senior. Also during her senior season, she was named all-area first team.
At Carroll College, Spoja had a freshman season that saw her named to the Frontier Conference’s All-Freshman team. She saw action in 27 matches, including 104 sets, where she hit at a .173 clip and reached the double-digit kill mark on 10 different occasions. Spoja set a career-high 15 kills against Providence (Mont.) to go with a career-best 11 digs for a double-double.
On the season, she totaled 61 blocks with a career-high of six coming in two separate matches. Spoja was also steady at the service line, serving five aces in one match in her collegiate debut at Evergreen and totaled 15 on the year.
“
As a freshman, Spoja averaged 1.93 kills, 1.05 digs, .15 aces and .60 blocks per game while helping guide the Saints to a 16-12 overall record.
Flores-Cloud on Spoja
“I am really excited to bring Sophia on as an Eagle. She has the same passion for the sport of volleyball and Eastern Washington, just like her mom, Angela. It is refreshing, and made the decision to recruit her very easy. Sophie is going to add experience and depth to our team and I am truly looking forward to coaching her.”
