Laura Asimakis joined the Eagles as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance in August of 2022. The 2022-23 season is her first with the Eagles. Asimakis works with Eastern's volleyball team, as well as Track and Field.
Asimakis comes to Cheney after a two-year stint at the University of Houston where she was a strength and conditioning coach. There, she developed and delivered comprehensive strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs for Houston's tennis and track and field athletes. She also trained NFL athlete, Rasul Douglas. That was Asimakis' second stint at Houston, as she also was a volunteer assistant track and field coach there for two seasons, helping guide the Cougars to consecutive men's indoor Conference USA Conference titles.
Asimakis had a standout track and field career of her own at Texas A&M. There, she was a part of the 2009 and 2011 NCAA National Championship teams. Since 2012, she has owned Texas A&M's pole vault school record, and she was a Big 12 Academic All-American for four years from 2009 to 2012. She won the 2012 indoor Big 12 Championship in the pole vault, but excelled on the javelin runway as well. In 2009, she won the Big 12 javelin individual title and earned All-American status in the event. In 2012, she competed in the Olympic Trials in the javelin.
She graduated from Texas A&M in May of 2012 with a degree in recreation, park and tourism sciences. Asimakis owns a CSCS certifcation and is a level one USA Weightlifting coach.
