Hinson Signs Trio of Four-Star Recruits to the Women's Tennis Program

Eagles score big with three four-star recruits to kickoff the 2016-17 Signing Class.

Eastern Washington University's women's tennis head coach Dustin Hinson announced the signing of three, 4-star Americans for the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 18.

"I'm extremely pleased to welcome these three talented athletes to the Eagle Women's tennis family," Hinson said. "They have been great to work with throughout the recruiting process and they have shown that they represent the qualities I'm looking for in student athletes."

Rylee Braeden from Houston, Texas is a four-star recruit and is currently ranked 12th in her recruiting class in Texas. Braeden will be graduating from Cypress Falls High School. She is ranked 128th in her recruiting class nationally and trains at the Giammalva Elite Tennis Academy in Spring, Texas. As a freshman and sophomore, she was voted Team MVP and placed first as a district champion in 2014 along with 3rd place in the 5A State Tournament. In 2015, she placed first again as a district 6A champion and a qualifier for the 6A State Tournament.

Zoey Nelson from Goodyear, Arizona is also a four-star recruit. Nelson will be graduating from Estralla Foothills High School. She is currently ranked fifth in her recruiting class in the state and is in the top 200 of her class in the nation. Nelson placed first in state in 2015 for singles in the Division III Arizona State High School tournament, along with first place as a team. In 2015 she was the Player of the Year for High School Division III tennis.  She trains at Nonstop 44/7 High Performance Tennis Training in Mesa, Arizona.

Lena Sweiss is another four-star recruit for the Eagles from the State of Arizona. She is currently ranked fourth in her recruiting class in Arizona and is in the top 160 of her class nationally. She trains with Jon Perran at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix.

"Not only are they physically gifted on the tennis court, but they have the kind of work ethic I love to see both on the court and in the classroom," Hinson added. "All three of these young ladies have expressed the desire to continue developing as players and to help make those around them better.  They will undoubtedly be able to come in and make an immediate impact on the team right away and are eager to get plugged into our campus and community."

The EWU women's tennis team will start competition again on Jan. 14 against Washington State University."
