The Eastern Washington University's women's tennis team continued play in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, January 28 against Colorado. The Eagles fell 6-1 to the dominant Pac-12 tennis team.

"I am very proud of the team for their fighting spirit and hunger to do well," head Coach Dustin Hinson said.

Freshman Valentina Sottile won her first collegiate match in regular season for Eastern's lone win of the day. She won her first set 6-3 and her second set 6-4.

"It was really exciting to watch Valentina Sottile get the tough win in singles today," Hinson said. "She was the last match on court and the team was able to support her and cheer on to victory."

Sophomore Faye Worrall was in the No. 1 singles spot and lost 6-1 in both sets. Senior Erin Blessing and freshman Marta Heinen also lost 6-1 in both sets. Junior Rachel Swindell lost her first set 6-1, but battled in her second set before falling 6-4. Senior Carolina Lopez lost 6-3, 6-1 in her match at No. 5 singles.

For the doubles, Worrall and Blessing teamed up for No. 1 doubles but the match went unfinished, stopping at 5-4. Swindell and Heinen played in the No. 2 doubles spot, falling 6-2 while Sottile and Lopez played in the third spot, losing 6-3.

"I am pleased with the progression this weekend," Hinson said. "We battled much better today and found more of a rhythm early in the mach. We had very strong energy from the first point of doubles and that really helped us execute better."

For their next match, the Eagles will be at home for the first time this year. They will be taking on Lewis-Clark State at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 3. Matches will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
