FARMINGTON, Utah — After helping Eastern Washington win its first two conference matches this past weekend,
Olivia Marais earned Big Sky Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the conference today.
Marais had a strong weekend to open Big Sky competition, going 2-0 in her singles matches. The Lodi, Calif. native, playing at No. 5 singles, started her weekend with a 7-5, 6-0 win against Montana State's Loala Bean. Marais's win clinched the 4-3 match win for Eastern over the Bobcats.
To follow up, Marais faced Montana's Paige Bott, battling to a three-set win (3-6, 6-2, 6-1). Her win was also the clinching win for EWU 4-3 victory against the Grizzlies. Adding to the winning effort, Marais played with Zoe Pradel at the No. 1 doubles, knocking off Meghna Anand and Kelsey Phillips 7-5 and helping the Eagles secure the doubles point.
This season, Marais is 7-2 in singles matches and 4-7 in doubles.
Eastern Washington is off this week but returns to the courts on March 20 to host Sacramento State at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse, with first serve at 11 a.m. EWU then travels to play Washington State in Pullman on March 21st for a 1 p.m. start.
