PULLMAN, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's tennis paused its conference schedule for a non-conference matchup against Washington State on Saturday. The Cougars defeated the Eagles 4-0 after securing the match win early in singles. EWU's overall record now drops to 8-6.

"I feel like we had pretty decent energy. We were getting used to a new facility after playing at home for the past few weeks. Being on the road and getting used to a new courts in a new environment was a little bit tough," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We started a little slow in singles, but overall, we fought well and played much better as the matches went on. We want to learn and build from playing on the road, going into conference road matches. Olivia Marais was playing really well and had split sets, but didn't finish after [WSU] clinched the match."

WSU asserted itself early, winning all three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead in the match.

The teams started singles at No. 3, as Martina Puvill defeated Zoe Pradel in a two-set match. At No. 4, Veronika Gayevyk fell to Yura Nakagawa in two sets.

The Cougars clinched the match victory with a win at No. 6 singles as Aneliss Zamfirescu came up short against Ava-Mnet Sycamore in two sets.

"WSU played well on their home courts and did a good job," Hinson added. "I thought Doubles was solid. We had some good points despite losing the matches. They play a nice, aggressive style and that's something we can learn from."
