CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University volleyball team dropped to Big Sky Conference rival Idaho in three sets on Saturday night (Oct. 28).
Eastern could never find its footing in the first set, falling 25-11. In the second, both sides traded points until Idaho went on a surge to lead 11-5. Trailing 16-11, Eastern exploded for six straight points and led 17-16. However, the Vandals responded and scored nine of the final 10 points to seal the 25-18 set two victory.
Following the break, EWU looked to keep themselves alive and force a set four as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Both sides would trade points and eventually found themselves in a 12-12 tie. Back-to-back kills from Ashley Seiler and Chloe Weber would put Eastern up by three. Eastern stayed ahead and looked to close out set three with a win, leading 23-21. However, Idaho would score three straight points to lead 24-23. A Vandal attack error tied the set up, but Idaho was able to come down with two kills to win 26-24.
WIN-LOSS RECORDS: With the loss, the Eagles drop to 6-15 on the season and 3-9 in league play. The Vandals snap a three-match skid and are now 13-10 overall and 8-4 in league play. Eastern has now dropped three straight to Idaho.
TOP PERFORMERS: Ashley Seiler led the team with 11 kills and nine digs. MaKenna Davis tallied two service aces, while Emma Dunn had 26 assists and one block.
KEY STATS: Idaho was able to outhit Eastern .330 to .084. They also had nine blocks to EWU's two and tallied seven more kills
UP NEXT: Eastern returns to Reese Court on Nov. 2 to host North Dakota at 6 p.m. The next day, Nov. 3, EWU plays its final home match of the season against Northern Colorado and will honor seniors Megan LaFond, Ashley Seiler and Chloe Weber prior to the match. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
