EWU Volleyball Preps for Final Home Matches of 2017

Eagles welcome North Dakota and Northern Colorado to Cheney this week

WEEK 11 MATCH NOTES | WATCH | STATS

CHENEY, Wash. –
With just four regular season matches remaining in the 2017 campaign, the Eastern Washington volleyball team will play its last matches at Reese Court this weekend. The Eagles play host to North Dakota on Nov. 2 and Northern Colorado on Nov. 3, with first serve set for 6 p.m. for both matches. Prior to Friday's match, EWU will recognize seniors Megan LaFond, Ashley Seiler and Chloe Weber.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles traveled to Weber State for a Thursday night matchup before returning home to host local Big Sky rival Idaho. Eastern was not able to claim a set over the weekend, falling 0-3 in both contests.

In the loss to Weber State, Emma Dunn made her first career start and set a career-high 35 assists. Both Ashley Seiler and Megan LaFond garnered double-doubles for the second straight match. At home against the Vandals, the Eagles struggled and only hit .084 as a team while UI hit .330. Seiler led the team with 11 kills and nine digs.

EAGLE LEADERS: Eastern Washington is 6-15 overall and 3-9 in the Big Sky Conference. They have league wins over Montana (3-1), Montana State (3-2) and Northern Arizona (3-0). The Eagles are currently on a seven-match losing streak after falling to Idaho in straight sets on Saturday.

Ashley Seiler leads Eastern with 311 kills, good for 4.04 a set, which is first in the Big Sky and 40th in the nation. Regan Harr has dished out a total of 497 assists (6.54/set) and leads the team with 19 service aces. Defensively, Megan LaFond has totaled 349 digs. The senior's 4.26 digs per set ranks seventh in the Big Sky and 129th in the nation. Freshman Jayde Robertsen leads the team with 49 total blocks.

As a team, Eastern is hitting .149 while allowing their opponents to hit .230. They average 16.3 digs/set which ranks fourth in the conference and 62nd across Division I. The Eagles also average 12.3 kills per set as a team. Their 11.64 attacks per set is 29th in the nation.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING HAWKS: UND had a five-match winning streak spoiled by Northern Arizona on Saturday in five sets. They have already clinched a BSC Championship spot with a 9-3 mark in league play. The Fighting Hawks hit at a .228 clip and lead the league in opponent hitting percentage with .151. As a team, they rank first in the Big Sky in digs per set (17.88), second in blocks (2.68/set), and third in assists (12.5) and kills (13.38) per set. UND plays at Iowa State on Tuesday before heading to Cheney.

The Eagles will have to watch out for UND's Faith Dooley, who is third in the Big Sky in hitting percentage (.374) and first with 1.5 blocks per set. In the matchup earlier this season, Dooley put up 10 blocks against the Eagles and hit .529 with no attack errors.

SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Washington is 1-10 all-time against the Fighting Hawks. They have not topped UND since Sept. 24, 2015 when they swept them 3-0 at Reese Court. On Sept. 30 of this season, EWU fell to UND in straight sets on the road. North Dakota has claimed the last four meetings and the Eagles are 1-4 against them all-time at home.

Both Regan Harr and Ashley Seiler claimed double-doubles during the first meeting this season.

SCOUTING THE BEARS: Northern Colorado has a 6-6 mark in league play and is currently on a two-match win streak after sweeping both Montana and Montana State over the weekend. UNC is hitting .213 as a team and limiting their opponents to a .174 hitting percentage. As a team, they are fourth in the league in both kills and blocks per set, with 13.23 and 2.32, respectively.

Kortney Lockey leads the team with 3.24 kills per set, she had 13 kills the last time the two teams matched up. However, Ashley Seiler tacked on a team-leading 16 against the Bears.

SERIES HISTORY: The Eagles trail the all-time series 8-17, with four of those wins coming at Reese Court. Eastern has dropped the last four meetings between the two schools, including a 1-3 loss earlier this season. The last win came at home on Sept. 26, 2015 where EWU swept the Bears.

IN THE HUNT: With just four regular season matches remaining, Eastern Washington is still searching for a spot in the 2017 Big Sky Championship. So far, Portland State, Sacramento State, Idaho State and North Dakota have clinched spots with four spots up for grabs. If the season ended today, the Eagles would not make it for the first time in two seasons. EWU is currently in 10th place overall in the Big Sky.

NEXT UP: This is the final home stand of the 2017 season. The Eagles will wrap up the regular season at Montana State on Nov. 9 and Montana on Nov. 11.
