@EWUVolleyball Adds Eight Players for the 2017 Season

Eastern Washington brings in eight talented student-athletes after collecting its first .500-or-better season since 2009 a season ago.

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University head volleyball coach Michael King announced the signing of six recruits to National Letters of Intent as well as two walk-on student-athletes on Friday (April 14).

MaKenna Davis (Parker, Colo./Chaparral HS), Emma Dunn (Salt Lake City, Utah/ Skyline HS), Ashelyn Jones (Honolulu, Hawaii/ Roosevelt HS /College of Southern Idaho), Letarona Mose (Long Beach, Calif./Carson HS) and Jayde Robertsen (Tsawwassen, B.C./ South Delta HS) have all inked NLI's and are set to join the team this fall along with Kahle Elliott (Austin, Tex. /St. Michael's Catholic Academy/Seattle University) who is already on campus. Catelyn Linke (Pasco, Wash. / Pasco HS) and Leanna Shymanski (Kennewick, Wash./Kamiakin HS) will join the team as preferred walk-ons.

"I am very happy with this recruiting class," said King who is entering his second season at the helm. "Not only are they good volleyball players but they are also people of character. Several players will be competing immediately for playing time."

Eastern is coming off a 2016 campaign that saw it make the Big Sky Tournament for the second year in a row, solidifying itself as one of the top teams in the conference . The Eagles notched 13 victories a season ago, finishing at .500 for the second consecutive year. EWU went 8-8 in Big Sky play, including season sweeps over both Montana and Montana State.

Three year letter winner in volleyball… Helped the Chaparral High School Wolverines qualify for the state championships three times… Compiled 379 kills during her senior year to rank third in Colorado State class 5A… Recorded a .294 hitting percentage to go along with 50 aces and 248 digs as a senior… Was tabbed the 2016 Max Preps Chaparral 'Player of the Year'… Helped lead her team to a 2017 Colorado Crossroads 18 USA Championship… Earned First Team All-Continental League and All-State honors her senior year after being tabbed Second Team All-Continental as a junior.

Born June 29, 1999… Daughter of Patrick and Patty Davis… Intends on majoring in exercise science with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist or athletic trainer.

Tabbed 'Most Valuable Player' during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons at Jordan High School… Earned back-to-back First Team All-Moore League Honors in 2014-15 and 2015-16… Named to the 2016 All-City Open Division First Team while at Carson High School.

Born April 30, 1999… Daughter of Arona and Loreta Mose… Plans on majoring in kinesiology with intentions of becoming an athletic trainer.

Was named Second Team All-State in 2016 and First Team All-Region in 2015… Helped lead the Skyline High School Eagles to a fourth-place finish in state during the 2015 season and a fifth-place finish in 2016.

Born January 10, 2000… Daughter of Todd and Wendie Dunn… Plans on studying pre-med with ambitions of becoming a cardiologist.

Named South Delta Secondary School 'Female Athlete of the Year'… Also played basketball, softball and soccer, earning Fraser Valley 'Most Valuable Player' in basketball… Led her team to a gold medal at the 2016 Delta Cup while earning First Team honors… Winner of the 2015 and 2016 silver medal at the Club Provincials… Named co-captain of the South Delta volleyball team.

Was a three-year starter and four-year varsity letter winner for the Kamiakin Braves… Named First Team All-Conference in 2015 and 2016… Led Kamiakin to two district championships in 2015 and 2016 and a regional championship in 2014…. Helped her team qualify for the state championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016… Named an AAU Academic All-American in 2015.

Born on August 30, 1998… Daughter of Michael and Lisa Shymanski… Plans on majoring in elementary education with aspirations of becoming a Spanish teacher.

Four-year varsity letter winner in volleyball and two-year letter winner in track at Pasco High School… Named volleyball team captain from 2014-16…. Tabbed 'Most Valuable Player' during the 2013-14 season by her teammates and was the 2015-16 'Offensive Player of the Year'…. Compiled a match-high 37 kills, 32 digs and a .414 hitting percentage… Named First Team Mid Columbia Conference as a sophomore, junior and senior… 2015 MCC 'Most Valuable Player'… Led her team to a 2014 MCC championship… Also earned Second Team MCC honors in the triple jump during the 2016 season.

Four-year varsity starter for volleyball, two-year varsity starter for basketball, and one-year varsity starter for both track and tennis at St. Michael's Catholic Academy in Austin, Texas… Named TAPPS 5A All-District and All-State in 2012, 2013 and 2015…. Helped lead the team its 11th NJCAA National Championship in 2015… Averaged 2.48 kills per game with a .240 attack percentage to go along with 0.68 blocks per game and 0.54 digs per game in two seasons for the Golden Eagles… Helped the team finish 62-9 overall in two seasons while also winning two conference championships and one Region 18 title.

High School
Led Roosevelt High School to a fourth-place finish in state in 2013 and a ninth-place finish in 2014… Earned Second Team All-American honors in 2013 and First Team All-American honors in 2014.
