Hempstead, N.Y. – The Eastern Washington women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Hofstra today (Aug. 31) in its first game of two on the road in New York. With the loss, Eastern falls to 2-3-0 on the season and Hofstra improves to 2-2-1. The Eagles outshot Hofstra 16-10, which marks EWU outshooting every opponent in all five matches so far this season.

Hofstra scored quickly in the game as Noriana Radwan scored a goal in the first minute of the competition from a corner kick off the far post, making it 1-0 in favor of the Pride early in the match.

In the 17th minute, Hofstra scored again on a goal from Emily Hulbert from a header shot over the defense that went into the left corner off an assist from Jenn Buoncore, making the score 2-0.

The first shot on goal for the Eagles came in the 23rd minute when junior Alexis Stephenson took a header shot, but could not notch it in with a save by goalkeeper Ashley Wilson.

The final goal of the first half came in the 35th minute with a score from Lucy Shepard as she played through the defense and put the ball over goalkeeper Kelsee Winston in the right corner. The assist went to Emily Hulbert.

Shortly after the score, Eastern had another shot on goal from senior Delaney Romero, but Wilson was there to stop it for Hofstra. The final two shots on goal came from junior Allison Raniere in the 36th minute and sophomore Saige Lyons in the 43rd minute. Hofstra left halftime with a 3-0 lead, but EWU was outshooting the Pride 14-5.

Going into the second half, the Pride scored again in the 55th minute with a shot from three yards out by Sabrina Bryan, making it 4-0, which ended up being the final score of the game.

Eastern had their first shot on goal in the 64th minute from Lyons. The one other shot on goal by the Eagles came from freshman Emma Vanderhyden in the 76th minute following her own corner kick.

Ten different EWU players took shots during the game, with five of them being on goal. Leading the Eagles in shots was Stephenson, who had three and one on goal.

Freshman Kelsee Winston was in net during the entire contest for Eastern and had four saves. Ashley Wilson played for the majority of the game for the Pride and collected six saves. Jenna Borresen eventually came in the 78th minute to relieve her.
