Eastern Washington Topped by Weber State Thursday Evening

The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they host Idaho State tomorrow at 7 p.m.

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University volleyball team played host to Weber State on Thursday evening (Oct. 25), falling in straight sets (13-25, 17-25, 19-25).

"We don't have very many players left and our defense is digging like no tomorrow. We had three defenders tonight collect over 10 digs and Kamille Langford came out really strong for us on the outside, she did a phenomenal job for us," said head coach Leslie Flores-Cloud. "We're learning and we're young and I am so grateful for their attitude and effort tonight."

The first set started off strong with a service ace from Puaoolelagi Sao, but Weber State collected the next nine points to force an Eastern Washington timeout. A late run that was sparked by a Kamille Langford kill put the Eagles within six, 15-9, but it was all Weber after that, taking the first set 25-13.

Langford opened the second set with a kill, but Weber State answered with an 8-1 run to lead 8-2. Trailing 13-7, Langford hammered down a kill followed by a kill from Kahle Elliott to start a 5-0 run. The run was capped off with an ace from Grace Nelson and resulted in a Weber State timeout as the Eagles only trailed by one, 13-12. From there, the Wildcats outscored Eastern 12-5 and claimed the second set 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Much like the first two sets, the Eagles claimed the first point of the set, this time off of an ace from Samantha Boever. The two teams traded points until Weber worked to a 10-5 lead. Trailing 21-14, a trio of Wildcat errors and an ace from Kennedy Kaminsky put the Eagles within four, 21-17. Facing set point, Boever hammered down her lone kill of the match to try and keep Eastern alive, but the Eagles fell short and dropped the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

WIN-LOSS RECORDS: With the loss, Eastern falls to 8-15 and 0-11 in Big Sky Conference play while the Wildcats improve to 13-7 and 8-3 overall.

TOP PERFORMANCES: Kamille Langford led the way for the Eagles with 13 kills. The sophomore hit .200 with only seven errors on 30 attempts.
