Eagles Fall to Idaho 1-0 on The Road

EWU returns to play next Friday (Oct. 12) and Sunday (Oct. 14) at the EWU Soccer Field for senior weekend

MOSCOW, Idaho—The Eastern Washington University soccer team faced off against the Idaho Vandals today (Oct. 7) in Moscow, Idaho to a loss of 1-0.
 
Ready to get the game started the Eagles took the first shot from McKaley Goffard following a corner kick from Allison Raniere but the ball was saved by the Vandals goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave. After 20 minutes of play, the Eagles took another shot from Kaelyn Barnes but the shot was saved by Presgrave, her second save of the match.
 
In the 23rd minute, the Idaho Vandals scored their first goal of the match with a header from Kelly Dopke that bounced off Eastern's keeper's hands. The assist from was from Kayleigh Frederick on a set piece.
 
Eastern tried to answer back with a header from Jenny Chavez following a corner kick, but it was saved by the Vandal keeper. Idaho took another shot in the 30th minute but Kelsee Winston was there for the save, her first of the match.
 
After 45 minutes of play the score remained at 1-0 with the Vandals in the lead. At halftime, the Eagles had outshot the Vandals nine to four with five shots on goal and four corner kicks. Idaho's goalie had five saves in the first half and Winston had three.
 
Returning from halftime Saige Lyons took the first shot for the Eagles but her shot was blocked. Looking to make it 2-0 in the 55th minute, Idaho's Kaysie Bruce took a shot but Winston was there for the save.
 
The Eagles attempted multiple shots throughout the second half but unfortunately they were unable to answer back against the Vandals and the game ended with the score at 1-0.
 
EWU outshot Idaho 19-8 with seven shots on goal and six corner kicks but came up short.

Win-Loss Records
The Eagles now have an overall record of 5-6-3 and 1-3-1 in Big Sky Conference play. The Vandals improve to 6-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference.
 
Keys to the Game
Allison Raniere led the Eagles in total shots taken with five, followed by McKaley Goffard and Jenny Chavez who each had three.
 
Notables
EWU's goalie Kelsee Winston recorded 90 minutes in the net and had four saves for the Eagles.
 
What's Next
EWU will be back in action next Friday, Oct. 12, when they return to the EWU Soccer Field to play Weber State. The Eagles also host Idaho State on Sunday, Oct. 14, for Senior Day. Home matches are complimentary to the public.
