CHENEY, Wash. – After opening the 2018-19 season on Sunday (Nov. 11), the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team is shifting its focus to its next matchup against Eastern Oregon. The Eagles play host to the Mountaineers on Wednesday, Nov. 14, inside Reese Court at 6:05 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles are looking to bounce back from a season-opening 63-51 loss to Gonzaga. Eastern led 12-5 after one quarter of play, after stingy defense limited the Bulldogs to just 15.4 percent from the field. Trailing by only four points at the half, the Eagles hung with Gonzaga during the third quarter, shooting over 42 percent. The Bulldogs were able to pull away in the fourth, outscoring Eastern 18-to-9.
Violet Kapri Morrow turned in her third-career double-double, leading the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. In her Eagle debut,
Jessica McDowell-White scored 12 points and was 4-for-8 from three-point range. She was also just short of a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds and led EWU with three assists.
Senior
Alissa Sealby scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds, just short of the first double-double of her career. She also led the team with two blocks and shot 50 percent from the field.
Eastern Washington shot 29.8 percent (17-57) from the field, 33.3 percent from three-point range (9-27) and 53.3 percent from the charity stripe (8-15). GU was able to shoot 33.8 percent from the field on 22-for-65 shooting.
Eastern out-rebounded Gonzaga, 49-to-42 and had 10 assists to their nine. Each team had six blocks a piece, but GU had 14 steals and forced 24 Eagle turnovers while only committing 11 themselves.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS: NAIA member Eastern Oregon is 1-2 on the young season. The Mountaineers fell to both Cal Maritime and Simpson to open the year, but picked up a 52-49 victory over Whitman on Nov. 10.
As a team, the Mountaineers average 49.0 points per game while shooting 35.7 percent from the field while tacking on 38.7 rebounds per game. They allow their opponents to score 51.7 points per contest and force 17.7 turnovers per game.
They are led by Madison Crews who averages 11.7 points per game to go with 3.3 rebounds/game while shooting 34 percent from the field. Khadija Neumeyer averages 8.3 rebounds per game and two steals. Whitney Meier averages 9.0 points while shooting 42.9 percent.
SERIES HISTORY: The Eagles and the Mountaineers have only met three times in program history. All matchups have taken place at Reese Court with Eastern cruising to victory in all three matchups. EWU and Eastern Oregon last met on Nov. 13, 2015 where the Eagles won 64-40.

Violet Kapri Morrow is on the road to joining one of the most exclusive clubs in college basketball, the 1,000-point club. With 18 points against Gonzaga, Morrow now has 818 career points, needing just 182 more to become the 18
th player in Eastern Washington women's basketball history to eclipse 1,000 points.
FRESH FACES: The Eagles welcome eight newcomers to the 2018-19 squad, including seven freshmen and one junior transfer.
Leya DePriest (Palmer, Alaska / Wasilla HS) comes to Cheney after two seasons at Denver where she appeared in 35 games.

Jessica McDowell-White (Brisbane, Australia),
Tessa Burke (Missoula, Mont. / Loyola Sacred Heart HS),
Bella Cravens (Laie, Hawai'I / Maryknoll School),
Milly Knowles (Cumbria, England),
Trinity Golder (Sandpoint, Idaho / Sandpoint HS) and
Grace Kirscher (Sandpoint, Idaho / Sandpoint HS) round out the newcomers and all hope to make immediate impacts while they adjust to college life and the style of Eastern Washington women's basketball.
The Eagles also welcome new assistant coaches,
Cody Bench and
Nakia Arquette. Bench coached at Alaska Fairbanks from 2010 to 2017, helping the Nanooks improve from a one-win season in 2010-11 to averaging 13 wins per season during her final three years in Alaska. Arquette played at Utah and served as the Director of Operations for the Eagles last year before being elevated to her new position.
