CHENEY, Wash.—The Eastern Washington University soccer team took on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits today (Sept. 16) to a 0-0 draw in double overtime.
"I thought we were sharp the first 20 minutes. We passed the ball well and created some great opportunities that we unfortunately didn't take advantage of. Then the wind picked up and it kind of got to be an ugly game the rest of the way," said head coach
Chad Bodnar. "The positives are that there is another clean sheet for our backline and
Kelsee Winston. We played without some of our normal starters for us today and it was difficult at times but I thought there were some good performances."
The Eagles started the match off with three shots but were unable to net a goal.
Another chance for the Eagles came in the 13th minute by junior
Saige Lyons but SDSU goalie Maggie Smither was there for the save, her first of the match.
The SDSU Jackrabbits took their first shot at a goal in the 34th minute of play by Allie Zueger but the ball sailed high.

Bodnar Bites
On Coming Together as a Team:
"The weekend was a different type of weekend, we were on the road on Friday and got home late that night and had to jump back into things and play again today. I thought we started well and we were connecting passes and looked like a team that could go forward and be dangerous, but we were just missing that final piece. That has been a reoccurring theme for us that we need to figure out at some point and hopefully that comes during conference play."
On their Fourth Shutout of the Year:
"We had a lot of clean sheets in non-league play, so you have to look at it and take the positives out of that, especially with the young people we have in the backline. We've played
Jenny Chavez in the backline in the last three games and then today
Grace Klinkenberg stepped back in and did a great job for us. I think there's depth in the backline even though its young but they've done a good job and
Kelsee Winston has made some huge saves for us. She has been very consistent, so you have to look at that and also improve on the other piece at the other end of the field."
On Entering Big Sky Play:
"The movement of the ball in the middle of the field can get better as well as our spacing and the movement off the ball in the top. I thought it was good in the first 25 minutes but then we got stagnant and predictable in how we were moving off the ball. We played a lot of straight ball trying to connect that last piece in the backline. I think we can continue to improve and keep moving forward. We talked about the non-conference schedule and how we know that the next nine games are the most important; we have to start clicking on all cylinders as we go into those next nine games."
