Including an Eastern Washington University record in the men's long jump, the Eagle track and field teams found success at the 25th Beach Invitational Friday and Saturday (April 19-20) in Long Beach, Calif.
Keshun McGee broke the 40-year-old long jump record with a huge jump of 25-2. The previous record was held by Vic White, who jumped 25-1 1/4 in 1979. McGee's previous best was 24-10 1/2 set a year ago.
"A lot of really good things were accomplished over the past three days," said head coach
Stan Kerr. "Keshun breaking the school record in the long jump easily tops the list of team and individual accomplishments."
Performances by the women included the third-best shot put all-time at EWU, a mark of 48-10 3/4 recorded by senior
Paris Flenoy.
"The Beach Invite keeps getting more and more prestigious," said head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "Long Beach has two shot rings next to each other and each of them were used for the competition. It can be a little inspiring when you are throwing in one ring and at the same time the defending Olympic Gold Medalist is throwing in the other."

More comments from men's head coach Stan Kerr . . .
"A three-day competition in California was a novel experience for many of our athletes. It was good to see them soak in this experience and take the lessons learned forward to our next meet."
"I'm not sure how many season and lifetime bests were made, but the performances surely show the team is moving towards marks that they'll need to score at the Big Sky Championships in a couple of weeks."
More comments from women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg . . .
"There were some amazing marks in the meet and some of them were ours.
Paris Flenoy gets the top mark this week for her shot performance. She threw 48-10 3/4 and that was with rushing through the throws to make sure she got on the bus to the airport."
"The vaulters put it together with
Samantha Raines and
Hally Ruff winning two sections of the vault, and
Elizabeth Prouty placing second to Raines in one of those sections. With that success, the flight home will be a lot happier."
"
Ami Njadoe doubled back from the Pacific Coast Meet and set a personal record in the 100-meter hurdles. She had a great two meets with her hurdle races this week."
"
Justean Landis is moving up in the hammer. She was overdue to set a new personal record in that event so it was exciting to see her go high 170's and finish just behind
Madison Doepker."
"We always go into warm weather meets hoping for some big marks and we got those. We need to keep building on that success next week at the OSU High Performance Meet."
Comments from Distance Coach Sam Read…
"
Isaac Barville maneuvered a crowded heat to set a new personal record and break 3:50. We're still a step away from regionals but he's knocking on the door now."
