CHENEY, Wash. - The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team opens the 2021 spring schedule this Sunday on Jan. 17 at noon in Spokane, Wash., against the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
"Getting back out on the court for some competition is such a positive thing right now. I'm proud of all my players for the resolve they have shown during the past year. They continued to train with a lot of things up in the air because they were hopeful for what was to come this season," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "They have a strong desire to win and they want to compete. This is the first match back for us and for a talented Gonzaga program. This match will be a good starting point for us to see where we stand and what we need to build upon moving forward. I expect some great matches and I expect to see a real desire to succeed from each of my players."
The Eagles currently have a 19-43 all-time series record versus Gonzaga and will look to snap a 14-match losing streak to the Bulldogs on Sunday. EWU's last win over GU dates back to February of 2008 where the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 5-2 in Spokane, Wash.
Gonzaga is led by head coach D.J. Gurule who enters his 16th season at the helm. Before last season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gurule led his team to an overall winning record of 8-6.
Following this match, the Eagles take on Washington State on Saturday, Jan. 30. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. Pacific time in Pullman, Wash.
