Leslie Flores-Cloud Steps Down as Head EWU Volleyball Coach

Flores-Cloud to spend more time with family after leading the program the past four seasons

Eastern Washington University head volleyball coach Leslie Flores-Cloud is resigning after having served as head coach since June of 2018, announced EWU Associate Vice-President/Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey.

"I am very sorry to announce that our head women's volleyball coach, Leslie Flores-Cloud, has decided to step away from her position at Eastern Washington University to spend more time with her family. Leslie was given a huge task when hired at Eastern to rebuild our volleyball program. She has done an outstanding job in helping us move the program back to where Eastern Washington volleyball should be and will leave a very good group of young players who are ready to compete at the Big Sky Conference level and who excel in the classroom," said Hickey. "Leslie represented us well in the community, in the Big Sky, and nationally with membership on various committees. We respect her need to prioritize being with her young family and certainly wish her the best."

Flores-Cloud guided the Eagles to the past two Big Sky Conference tournaments and had two All-Big Sky performers during her tenure.

"I have enjoyed my time at Eastern and appreciate the opportunity to help re-build and lead the volleyball program. This past year and a half has been an unusually challenging time in intercollegiate athletic competition due to COVID, and with a young child and a newborn, this time period was even more difficult for my family," said Flores-Cloud. "I need to step away and prioritize my family at this time and assess what my next steps career wise will be. I am confident in the ability of our young team and know that the new coach will be stepping into a program that is definitely on the rise. Many thanks to our administration and fans who have supported me, our team, and my family during our time at EWU."

Current assistant coach, Angela Spoja, will step in as the interim coach while a search for Flores-Cloud's replacement is conducted.
