CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University golf team returns to competition this Thursday (March 11) and Friday (March 12) when they head to St. George, Utah for the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Southern Utah and will consist of two rounds on the first day and one round on the second with both days beginning with an 8 a.m. Pacific time shotgun start.
"This tournament will take some more mental toughness as we'll be dealing some cold conditions," said head coach
Brenda Howe. "It'll be important that we don't let the elements get to us like we did earlier this week."
The Lady Thunderbird Invite was the last competition the Eagles faced before the season was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns last season. The event was shortened to just one round in which EWU shot a 301 to finish second out of five competing Big Sky Conference schools and third overall as host Southern Utah held the overall first place spot with 296 strokes in the tournament. In addition, newly departed senior
Madalyn Ardueser was crowned the individual champion after shooting 70 strokes in one round and helped EWU finish third overall.
All teams have the opportunity to get a feel for the course in a practice round one day prior to the tournament on March 10. On match day, the Eagles will compete among 14 other teams including four other conference schools in hosts Southern Utah, Idaho State, Montana and Weber State. The other 10 schools include California Baptist, CSU Bakersfield, Dixie State, Illinois State, North Dakota State, Oral Roberts, Seattle, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, and Wyoming.
