No. 16 Eagles Win in Pocatello 46-42

Eagles rally for Big Sky Conference victory to improve to 2-1 on the season

The 16th-ranked Eastern Washington University scored two touchdowns in the final six minutes to complete a comeback against Idaho State and win 46-42 in a Big Sky Conference game Saturday (March 13) at Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.

All-America quarterback Eric Barriere completed 34-of-50 passes for 455 yard and five touchdowns in the victory, as EWU out-gained ISU in total offense 596 to 502. Idaho State passed for 409 in the loss.
 
Eastern rushed for 141 yards and held ISU to 93, with Dennis Merritt leading EWU with 82 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Leading receivers for Eastern were Andrew Boston with 10 for 143 yards and two scores, Freddie Roberson with eight for 142 and Talolo Limu-Jones with eight grabs for 99 yards and a scored.
 
Ty Graham led Eastern's defense with eight tackles, and Anthany Smith and Darrien Sampson each had interceptions. Debore'ae McClain had 1 1/2 sacks and Jacob Newsom had one.
 
This  game completes the first-half of the six-game league schedule for both teams. A 48-5 win last year at ISU extended EWU's current streak of 51 seasons with at least one road win and winning for the 11th-straight time over Idaho State. Those streaks were extended to 52 and 12, respectively, on this year.
