CHENEY, Wash, - The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team hits the road to face Big Sky Conference opponent Sacramento State for two matches on March 19 and March 21, with the first beginning at 3 p.m. Pacific time and the second at 1 p.m. PT in Sacramento, Calif. The Eagles head into the match with a 2-0 conference record and 3-2 overall with a three-match winning streak.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: The Eagles currently stand tied with Montana in the Big Sky Conference with a 2-0 record in the Northwest Division. Eastern leads in total shots (68), points (32), goals (12), assists (8), saves (29), and corners taken (20).
Individually,
Maddie Morgan leads the league in points (5) and
Taylor Matheny leads the league in assists with three in five matches. Morgan, along with
Grace Terrill, lead the league in goals scored (2) and EWU goalkeeper
Kelsee Winston leads the conference in saves (29).
LAST TIME OUT: Eastern is returning after a dominating performance against the Portland State Vikings which saw five different Eagles score in a two-match span that out-scored the Vikings 6-2. The Eagles hosted the Vikings at the EWU Soccer Field for both matches and found early success each time scoring an early goal and keeping the momentum throughout the match.
In the first match on March 12,
Sariah Keister scored an early banger in the eighth minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Colby Wilson found the second goal in the 53
rd minute, scoring a header from a perfectly placed lob pass by
Taylor Matheny. Portland State responded with a goal of its own in the 65
th minute but the Eagles sealed the deal with a third goal in the closing minutes of the match. The goal came in the 84
th minute from a dime pass by
Maddie Morgan to
Kendall Pope who touched the ball past the keeper and slotted it in the back of the net. After 90 minutes, the Eagles won 3-1 against the Vikings.
The match marked head coach
Chad Bodnar's 70
th win at the helm to make him Eastern Washington's all-time winningest coach after six complete seasons and five matches this season.
In the second match on March 14, freshman
Grace Terrill got the early lead in the 24
th minute for the Eagles, coming from an assist by
Riley Walkington. The goal marked the second of her young career after scoring her first against the College of Idaho (Feb. 28). Following halftime, Morgan put the Eagles on top 2-0 in 71
st minute from a lob through-ball pass from the boot of Matheny. PSU snuck one in soon after in the 73
rd minute but EWU responded right away with the third and final goal in the 75
th minute. The goal came from Morgan, who collected her second of the match after gathering the ball from an assist by Wilson. At the end of regulation, the Eagles kept possession and left with another 3-1 victory, continuing their unbeaten streak against the Vikings to nine-straight matches.
Additionally, Morgan scored a total of five points (two goals, one assist) over the weekend and was awarded Big Sky Conference Player of the Week and earned an honorable mention spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: Sac State is currently 1-0-2 overall and has yet to compete in a Big Sky Conference match.
Sacramento State is coached by Randy Dedini, who is in his 14th season at the helm.
Eastern has an all-time series record of 9-12-3 against Sac State and won its last match against the Hornets last season in a 2-1 double overtime victory in the Big Sky Conference semifinals match to advance to the conference finals. After the Eagles went down 1-0 right before halftime, they bounced back scoring a goal in regulation and a game-winning goal in the second overtime period from
Madison Kem and
Maddie Morgan, respectively.
