"We're looking forward to competing in the Pacific Northwest for the first time this year. It'll be important that we come out strong from the start in order to be competitive next week," said head coach
Brenda Howe. "Last week we played the best we've played all spring so hopefully we can use that as some momentum going into next week."
The 2021 conference championship marks the 27th annual championship for the Big Sky in which EWU has placed second twice (2003, 2004) in program history and most recently placed tied for fourth along with PSU in the 2019 championships.
At the beginning of the spring season, Eastern was selected to finish fifth in the Big Sky Conference Preseason Poll with one vote away from selected fourth place PSU, while Sacramento State was chosen as the favorites as they have won two out of the last three championships.
As a team in the tournament, EWU's lowest one-round total is 286 (2004), lowest two-round total is 580 (2004), lowest three-round total is 889 (2016) and best individual finish is 212 (74, 70, 68) which was shot by departed Marissa Borja (2016).
Last year's championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in the season prior in 2019, the Eagles finished tied for fourth overall after shooting an 892 (293, 301, 298) to beat out MSU (903), NAU (904), SUU (906), WSU (928), UM (940) and ISU (958). Sacramento State completed the event in first place overall after shooting 867 strokes.
