After throwing for over 500 yards for the second-straight week, Eastern Washington University football player
Eric Barriere has earned his ninth-career ROOT Sports Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week award, as announced this morning (Sept. 27). It's the redshirt-senior's second consecutive player of the week nod and his third this season. He also received national recognition from College Sports Madness as the National Offensive Player of the Week for the second-straight time, and received an honorable mention nod from College Football Performance and Stats Perform.
Â
Barriere compiled 546 yards of total offense in a 50-21 road victory at Southern Utah on Sept. 25, helping the Eagles sit at 4-0 overall for the first time since 1997 and leading the squad to their first road win in Cedar City, Utah, since 2014.
Â
The Inglewood, Calif., native threw four touchdown passes and had 518 of Eastern's single-game school record 554 passing yards while also adding 28 yards on the ground. He completed 30 of his 43 passing attempts and was without an interception for the third-straight game. Barriere also became the first Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) player with consecutive 500-yard passing performances since Cornell's Jeff Mathews in 2011.
Â
Barriere had three plays over 40 yards, including a 64-yard completion to
Freddie Roberson and 45-yard touchdown pass to
Talolo Limu-Jones, to now have 40 plays of 40-yards or more in his career.
Â
He reached a personal milestone, too, as he became the fourth Eastern Washington quarterback in program history to throw for over 10,000 yards, cracking the Big Sky top-ten career list as well. Now sitting at 10,437 career passing yards, he moved into second in EWU history in career completions (756) and total yards of offense with 11,901 (1,646 rushing yards).
Â
Barriere is 24-9 as a starter during his illustrious career and has thrown 91 touchdown passes. It was his third-career game with over 500 yards, 13
th with over 400 and 21
st with over 300.
Â
No. 6/6 Eastern Washington will look to equal the best start at the FCS level in program history at 5-0 this Saturday, Oct. 2, on the national stage when they welcome the No. 4/4 Montana Grizzlies to town. The game is broadcasted on ESPN2 with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.
