Eastern Washington women's soccer faced the University of Montana today, with the Eagles and Griz ending with a draw, 0-0. After 90 minutes of scoreless play, Eastern's record is now 5-5-4 and 2-0-2 in the Big Sky. The Griz are 4-4-6 and 1-2-1 in the Big Sky.
"A lot of great positives for us to take away, as a team, from today's effort," head coach Missy Strasburg said. "Montana is a tough place to earn points as the road team, and the Griz are a very confident side. We are really pleased with how we competed, defended, and fought hard to score through the last minute of the match today. Mareonna Henderson had her best performance of the year so far. She was active in the attack and impactful defending, including a goal-line save. Both teams had chances cleared off the line today, which continues to prove how tight the Big Sky Conference is this year. Every moment of every match is a battle, and will be so through the rest of the regular season and into the conference tournament. We love the spirit and mindset our team is currently competing with and now turn our attention to preparing for NAU."
Eastern had a strong defensive effort today, blocking shots and Kamryn Willoughby getting six saves. Within four minutes of play, Skyler Matthews put up a shot on goal, but was saved by Montana's goalie. In the 17th minute, Gillian Martin had a great breakaway from the Montana defense in a one-on-one matchup. Martin put up a close shot on goal but was blocked by Camellia Xu of Montana. Martin, Chloe Pattison, Kalista Kakou, and Lyric Baker each had a shot on goal today for the Eagles.Â
Montana took control of the ball early on in the match. Molly Massman was quick to put up a shot for the Griz in the third minute of play. Skyleigh Thompson had four shots and two on goal. Her shots barely missed wide as she had a couple breakaways from the Eagle defense. Maysa Walters had four shots and two on goal as well, getting into close quarters of the goal, but Willoughby was there for the save.Â
