Eagles Look to Clinch a Postseason Spot

Eastern Washington will celebrate senior day on Saturday

Eastern Washington will host its final two regular season games this weekend, with an eye on a postseason berth in the Big Sky Tournament. Eastern will play Northern Colorado on Friday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. The Eagles' final regular season game will be against Northern Arizona on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.

Saturday night's game will be senior day as the team will honor Renata Lopez Morales, Leah McAdams, Lindsey Russell, McKenna Russell and Ka'ehukaiiha'amaina'e Keala. The five seniors will be honored pregame. 

Last Time Out
In Eastern Washington's last time out, they faced off against Sacramento State and Portland State. Against Sac St., the Eagles fell in three sets (19-25, 20-25, 15-25), but then took the win at Portland State 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 25-17). Now Eastern is back in town with a 3-3 record at home, getting ready to end their Big Sky regular season conference games.

A Look at the Eagles
After being on the road in their last four games, the Eagles have brought their overall record to 10-16 and their Big Sky record to 5-9. In the Big Sky, Eastern currently sits in eighth place in conference.

Through the season, the Eagles have found their way up in the rankings in the conference. As a team, Eastern is ranked sixth in total points (1584), averaging 15.23 points per set. The Eagles also rank third in service aces (172), while averaging 1.65 per set.

This season, Sage Brustad has been working her way up the leader board. In the 104 sets that she has played, Brustad has 347 kills, averaging 3.34 kills per set. She has risen to third for service aces with 44, averaging 0.42 per set.

For the team, Alyssa Radke leads the Eagles in kills with 167 and she is averaging 3.27 kills per set in conference games. Radke sits in second place for most points on the team with 191.5, just one point behind Brustad who leads with 192.5.

A Look at the Bears
Northern Colorado has matched up with Eastern Washington a total of 35 times. Eastern is 9-26 against the Bears. The last time these teams saw each other was earlier this season in October, with the Bears winning 3-0.

For the Bears in the Big Sky, they lead the conference record of 11-3. They are currently on a nine-game winning streak, with a 9-1 record in their last 10 games. Northern Colorado has had one of the best seasons as they are ranked in the top five of almost every statistic.

They are first in assists (1255), averaging 13.21 per set. They are also first in kills (1337), averaging 14.07 per set, along with being fifth in blocks (209.5), averaging 2.21 per set. The Bears have outstanding defense and offense.

A Look at the Lumberjacks
Northern Arizona and Eastern has gone up against each other 72 times, generating a record of 38-34 in favor of the Eagles. In their last appearance, NAU topped Eastern in Flagstaff, 3-2. 

In the Big Sky conference, the Lumberjacks currently sit in ninth place behind Eastern with a conference record of 3-11. Their overall record for the season is 4-17, as they are coming into Cheney with a win against Idaho State, 3-2.

On the leader board, Northern Arizona is ranked fifth in digs (1244) while averaging 14.81 per set. They are first in opponent service aces, only allowing 105 in the past 84 sets and averaging 1.25 per set.

With their last two Big Sky conference games against the Bears and Lumberjacks, the Eagles look to clinch a spot in the postseason tournament. The Big Sky Conference Championships start on Wednesday, Nov. 23 in Ogden, Utah and ending on Saturday, Nov. 26.
