On the eve of the Big Sky Tournament, Eastern Washington volleyball's
Sage Brustad and
Alyssa Radke were named All-Big Sky second team selections, announced by the conference today (Nov. 22). The second team selections are the first postseason awards for both Brustad and Radke.
Brustad is an all-around contributor for the Eagles, leading the team with 3.33 kills per set on .175 percent hitting. The junior leads the team with 42 service aces, averaging 0.40 per set. On defense, Brustad is second on the team with 2.17 digs per set. She adds 0.42 blocks per set, with 40 block assists and four solo. The Richland, Wash. native has five double-doubles this season.
On the conference leaderboard, Brustad is fourth in kills and third in aces. Brustad is also third in points with 3.95 per set.
This season, Brustad set career highs with 22 kills against South Dakota State (9/2) and 17 digs against Montana State (11/28). Brustad would match her career high in kills against Arkansas State (9/16) later in the season. She has three games this season with 20 or more kills. In Eastern's second game against South Dakota St., Brustad notched six service aces, which is tied for the most by a player during the 2022 season in the Big Sky.
Eastern is third in the conference with 1.62 aces per set, with 172 total.
Radke has stepped into the role of Eastern's power hitter this season, ranking second on the team with 2.92 kills per set with a .209 attack percentage. The sophomore excelled in conference games, leading the team with 3.20 kills per set. Radke has also slid into the role of net defense for the Eagles, posting 82 total blocks, with 11 solo and 71 assists. She averages 0.77 blocks per set for the second best average on the team.
Radke ranks 10
th in the Big Sky in kills overall this season and is ninth in conference play.
Radke set a career high in kills with 24 against Northern Arizona (10/20), while hitting .280. The 24 kills is tied for the fifth most recorded by a play in the Big Sky this season. She also posted 20 kills against Montana (10/27), with a .261 attack percentage. Against Northern Colorado (11/18) this past week, Radke set a new career high with seven total blocks, carrying the load with four solo and three assists.
Northern Colorado setter Syd Cole was named Big Sky MVP, while Montana head coach Allison Lawrence earned Coach of the Year honors. UNC's Michaela Boon and Portland State's Ellie Snook shared Libero of the Year. The top newcomer was the Vikings Madison Friebel and the Outstanding Freshman award went to Idaho State's Emrie Stauala.
Eastern Washington will open their third-straight Big Sky Conference Tournament tomorrow (Nov. 23) as the seven seed. They will play the two seed, Portland State at 3 p.m. Pacific Time.
